Little O' This, My Girl, Pregnancy

Tiny Injustices

Things that have made me grimace this week:

1.  I received a notice in the mail that my driver’s license was up for renewal which meant I had to go into the insurance office and have my picture taken.  While 8 months pregnant.  So, it looks like my double chin is trying to swallow my face and my hair is all pouffy and wild and Avelyn was running around the office while the photo was taken, threatening to dump out the huge box of crayons that’s supposed to keep children quietly entertained so the look of frustration and fear is simmering in my eyes.  And I get to keep that terrible portrait of myself on my driver’s license for the next FIVE YEARS.

2.  Even though I am a good 15 pounds lighter than I was at this point in my last pregnancy, I have two red, ominous dots forming on either side of my abdomen.  Do you know what those dots are?  The beginning of stretch marks.  Those little dots will soon elongate and morph into what look like claw marks from an angry wolverine.  I thought I’d have lots of extra skin to spare since I am thinner this time, but my body has other ideas.

3.  I have three massive and blistering zits on my head.  One is, no lie, the size of a dime on the nape of my neck, thankfully concealed in my hairline.  So gross.  The others are located on my chin and my eyebrow (what the heck?!).

Other than these mild inconveniences, life is going pretty nicely.  I have been at the beach with my girl, taking pictures of the ruffled bottom on her bikini, eating fresh cherries, bbqing on the deck with friends, pulling the occasional weed in the yard when the evenings cool off, putting the finishing touches on the nursery (pictures to come soon!) and watching my waistline expand.

34.5 weeks

I get my hair cut next week, just to clean up the shaggy layers and touch up my highlights.  But, what do you think of bangs?  I am wary, yet intrigued.  I haven’t had them since the sixth grade but am wondering if they might add a bit of style and interest to my look.  Help me!

  • Wow! You look great! Almost there:) I bet bangs would look good on you but bangs just scare me. I tried them years ago with a horrible outcome. Have a great weekend~

  • bangs! yes! i think they’d be GREAT!

  • You look fabulous! And I think yes on the bangs. Why not? You can always grow them back out.

  • Are you thinking straight across bangs or side bangs? I’d go for some side bangs – but I’m bias – I have them :)

If you want to see what I mean I’m sure there is a picture on my blog showing my hair done nicely. If not I’ll post one just for this purpose :)

You look fabulous by the way! I just love reading your blog – you’re a funny writer :)

  • You could just “lose” your photo id when you are no longer pregnant and have them retake your photo. I think there’s a fee involved, but it’s an option.

And I say yes to the bangs too (side bangs anyway). Your hair is short enough that if you hated them they’d blend into the rest of your ‘do in no time.

  • I think you look great without bangs. I actually have serious hair envy… I recently took the plunge, cut sideswept bangs after finally getting over the horrible bang incident of ’84. I hate them with a red hot passion and am constantly pushing them out of my face.

    Thank god, hair grows back.

  • I love your hair as is. I think the cut frames your face so well….So my vote is no on the bangs.

  • You look adorable! I can’t beleive you are in the last few weeks. My mind races when I even THINK of the prospect of having a newborn now (my M is just 2 months younger then your A).

I love the idea of bangs and I think they will look cute on you but right before the baby comes? What if you hate them and have to deal with figuring them out while sleep deprived and stressed? Maybe wait a few months…

And, if it makes you feel any better my current DL photo is from less than 2 weeks after M was born. My hair is a mess, my face is puffy and the circles under my eyes are severe. Thank god no one cards me anymore!

  • *I cut bangs during my second pregnancy too. Side swept bangs. I hated them at first but now I love them. I feel like it does add a little character to my hair. I vote yes on the bangs but I agree that it would be good to wait until a few months after baby. There is always a chance of post pardum depression and if you had it before, you probably would want to wait. Good luck……..

  • I vote yes! I can totally see you with side-swept bangs.

  • Hey, have you tried Hairmixer.com? It’s oodles of fun, and gives you a good idea of what you’ll look like with different hairstyles.

  • If I would not end up looking like a poodle, I would totally get bangs. I’ll live vicariously through you instead :)

  • I’m not sure on the bangs. My friend did that and cried all the way home and every day until they grew back.
Wow, you’re getting close to the big day! You look fabulous!
We’re planning on coming to Kelowna the first week of Sept. If you haven’t had baby yet, and it wouldn’t be too inconvenient, perhaps we’ll say a quick hello.

  • Bangs would look fantastic on you.

  • I tried side-swept bangs. I liked them okay, but within three months I was growing them out again. I would say TRY BANGS, but I think you’re like me… you eventually gravitate back to your “comfy style.” But I really like that length on you!

  • You are too cute. Hooray to expanding waistlines. I am 26 weeks pregnant and keep on marveling at my belly that is growing by the second. I love bangs. I cut them about a year ago and still get a lot of comments on them. I say go for it. If you don’t like them you can hide them easily. Plus with all of the pregnancy hormones and vitamins, they will grow quickly.

  • You look terrific!

  • go bangs go!! you look great!

  • I think you could totally pull off bangs with class. I am a fan of no bangs, cause I wish I had LONG bangs. You always want what you don’t have hey?
You look adorable in this picture. Love your top!

  • Losing the driver’s picture? It may not work. I don’t know how it goes out there, but here in Manitoba they’ll just retrieve the picture from the computer database. It’s really nice of them. lol.

  • Bangs are annoying, especially when you’ll be dealing with a newborn. Just my opinion.

  • Amanda you crazy girl…you look AMAZING! Your hair is what I WANT my hair to look like!

  • I MISS YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!BWAAAAAAAAAAAA!

You look great. Will call you tomorrow….or tonight…..

  • I’m loving the whoorl bangs I got at my last haircut, but with all your angst about your hair, maybe it’d be good to wait for a while…

  • oh mango…you are SO pretty.

are you gonna call me this week or what?!

    miss you

  • Sounds like quite the wonderful life. Wishing you well.

  • Does anyone ever look good in their drivers license photo?

  • no bangs–you are too cute w/out them

  • Your hair looks awesome without bangs, and I’m sure you’d look good with bangs as well.

That being said, I vote no to bangs. Only because I go through the bangs vs. no bangs struggle every couple of years and every time I cave and get my bangs cut, I like them for the first little while, then end up growing them out and wishing I hadn’t cut them. I wash my hair daily, but with bangs, I find I get more acne near my hairline. Plus, I hate pushing them out of my eyes and later out of my face when they grow out and are side swept.

If you decide to do it, I agree with everyone else to wait until after the baby.

Love your maternity clothes!! They are all SO cute! How come I could never find anything as cute when I had my kids?

  • You look gorgeous! A note on your hair…only because you asked, I swear. Save yourself trauma and wait to get bangs until after the baby is born, like a few months. Sorry, I feel bad but I have to save you from the trauma that I myself experienced. Again, you look fantastic and thin and I LOVE your hair! =)

  • You look great! I think bangs would look awesome on you – I’m too scared to do it myself. The last time I had bangs was grade 2 :)

  • I vote no to the bangs. I keep getting them as well every couple of years and I like them while they’re fresh but as soon as they start growing out, I curse them.

You look great as you are.

  • What are you talking about? You look gorgeous for being so pregnant! The way you were talking, I was expecting a picture more like Roseanne!

  • One.HOT.Mama! You look fabulous!

I have tried many times to grow out my bangs..so maybe you could get really long bangs that wont be too hard to grow out if you wake up one day and hate them.
