Hungry Mondays, Weight

Hungry Mondays

Everyone loves a good weight loss story, right?  Well, you’re about to have a closer look at mine, the one I have just started (re)writing.  I officially began Weight Watchers again last week and am going to log in here every Monday with an update.  My hope is that by keeping track of my progress here, for all to see, I’ll be a little less likely to cave when I catch a whiff of pizza, when I am tempted to quit, when I have a week where my weight plateaus.  It’s harder to quit when people are watching and cheering you on to completion.

So, allow me to introduce the first installment of Hungry Mondays.

Seven days ago I logged into Weight Watchers online and entered my starting weight of 159 pounds.  I hated the number, but you gotta start somewhere, right?  And I had just had a baby six weeks prior, so I tried to cut myself a little slack.  Thus began the Point counting.  I am allowed 22 Points per day with 35 (glorious) Flex Points for me to use throughout the week as I see fit.  (I usually try to stick to my base point for the first part of the week and then be able to enjoy a few little treats on the weekend.)

This first week was hard.  I was hungry in the mornings, the afternoons, the evenings and as I laid in bed, trying to fall asleep.  And I was also grumpy.  It’s hard to make a change like this where I, all of a sudden, have to become very aware of what I’m putting in my body.  I can’t just grab a fistful of crackers on my way through the kitchen, or slide a piece of cheese into my mouth as I’m making Steve a sandwich for lunch. I found myself wearied at the thought of having to stick with this for at least 3-4 months to get the results I’m aiming for.  But I had to remind myself to not focus on the long-term, rather think only of today:  Can you stick to your Points today? Good.  Then do it.

And I did.  I pushed through the trying moments and ended up losing three pounds this week.  In the following weeks I will only lose 1-2 pounds per week, but this initial kick-start was nice.

Some thoughts:

Losing weight is hard.  Of course it is!  If it weren’t, we’d all be wandering around the streets in our size zero jeans, complaining about how our hip bones protrude too much.

I would be a goner without the likes of: frozen blueberries, Weight Watchers whole wheat bread, Special K Satisfaction cereal, and Cadbury thins.

There is an assurance in the WW program since I succeeded on it before.  It’s like a little guarantee:  If you stick to the plan, you WILL lose weight.

Flex Points are there for a reason.  They give you the strength to keep going.  “If I stick to my base Points on the weekdays then I can have some sweet, greasy pizza on Saturday.”  Because a life without pizza is one I want no part of.

See you next week!

  • Hey – I am mainly a lurker around here but, I thought I’d share my weight loss blog with you.

    http://fattymcfatterson.wordpress.com/

I also just started up on Weight Watchers again.

I look forward to seeing your success with WW.

  • Good luck! You look amazing right now, baby or not so the results can only get more amazing. You’re such a talented writer!

  • I’m getting ready to start a new, healthy eating plan too (once we get paid and can afford to go buy groceries! lol) and so I’m always up to seeing how others do. Post LOTS of pics…that helps too!

  • What a great start! I’ve been back on WW for about 13 weeks now. I’ve done it before and had results but usually got to a point where I couldn’t afford it anymore, quit, did it on my own for awhile then fell off the wagon. I’m so, so lucky to now have an employeer not only PAY for it but offer several “@work” sessions each week as part of a wellness program.

You are right in that the program does work – if you follow the guidelines you WILL lose. So far I’ve lost about 40 pounds (and still have a long way to go) but have found that this time my motivation is much stronger. I have yet to have a week without a loss (I even weighed-in while on vacation and lost!), but lately I have had to add more and more activity points to make that happen, because I also refuse to give up Friday Pizza night!

Good luck with your journey – it’s got to be hard with TWO little ones but you’ll do great!

  • And the Fat-Free Cool Whip! LIFESAVER!

The most comforting thing about WW for me was settling myself into a routine for the weekdays. I pretty much ate the same thing for breakfast and lunch, and then I grocery shopped on Mondays with meal plans so I would know exactly how many points each dinner would be. And then, on Friday nights, I ate PIZZA AND DRANK A BEER, and when I stuck to the plan all week? That felt like such a fabulous reward. (If I cheated a lot that week, it felt guilty. But when I was good, it felt HEAVENLY.)

Seriously, I can’t wait to join you in three more months. You’ll already be at your goal, and I’ll just be starting out, WAH.

  • Good for you! I have a great recipe for taco soup that is only 2pts for a cup and it is full of fiber from black beans. Have you tried the 16grain bread from silver hills. 5 grams fiber per slice makes for only one point and it is very filling and satisfying if you thinly spread pnbutter on it. I read somewhere that if you take a pic weekly of you in a bathing suit and post it on your fridge it will motivate you to stick to your points and you will be able to see your results before your eyes. Good luck. (halloween chocolate bars only have 2 points for a treat too.)

  • I forgot to mention, if you can’t give up pizza, modify it. I just made pita pizzas last week. Use whole wheat pita pockets(5g fiber) for the crust, tomato sauce, lots of veggies, and go easy on the cheese. Better than not having pizza.

  • way to go!! I had my baby 9 weeks ago and youre ahead of me. I’ll keep checking on you….good luck!

  • Great start! You can do it!

  • I’ve told you this already, but I am SO proud of you!

  • Good luck! We’re all cheering you on!

  • Wow. You’re amazing for starting a mere 6 weeks postpartum. It took me just over a year postpartum to finally get my but in gear. I’m thinking of trying it again. Now if only I could get Kaylie’s Halloween candy to STOP CALLING MY NAME!

  • I’ve said it before and i’ll say it again…diets = bad. Moderation is KEY! So when the craving comes to eat an entire bag of oreos…satisfy the craving by eating TWO oreos and throw in a piece of fruit, like an apple. Craving satisfied and healthy item thrown in (plus, then you won’t vomit oreos from eating an entire bag)

Shelley’s other recommendations: eat sllllloooooowwwly! if you put an entire meal into you in under a minute….well, that’s just not good. By eating slowly, you’ll actually feel yourself filling up and stop when you feel satisfied…not “stuffed”.

Also good: eating 5-6 smaller meals a day rather than 3 big ones. it’ll cut down on hunger cravings and you’ll have more energy during the day to chase Avelyn

    :)

  • “Because a life without pizza is one I want no part of.”
    Amen, sister!!!

Today, it’s my birthday, and I am seriously craving Peachland Pizza, The Beach to be specific. I wish I were you today! So close to Peachland, that is, NOT having to count points and all that. LOL.

  • Good for you! I will be cheering you on for sure. My third baby is due in 8 days and I am looking forward to beginning the WW journey again at about the same postpartum stage as you. I’m sure your Monday check-in’s will help me stay on track too. I initially lost 30 pounds prior to baby #1 on WW as I wanted to get in shape before I got pregnant. Then after baby #1 I lost all my weight on the WW plan, and did the same after baby #2. Like you, I know the program works which is reassuring…if we just stick with it then the results will come. Good luck!

  • I am an absolute Freak-Show for the WW regimen. I’ve lost nearly 90 pounds and kept it off for a long time. I’ve been holding at my current weight for a little over a year. You’ve inspired me to get back on track and lose the remaining poundage :-)

  • Good for you!!! I’ll be checking back on Mondays to cheer you on :)

  • Great job! I’m sure you’ll do well, you’ve done it before!!! I need to be doing something about my weight but darn that pizza keeps calling me too!

  • Proud of you, awesome job!

Well I recently got engaged ever since my boyfriend proposed to me with a gorgeous diamond engagement ring from http://www.idonowidont.com and I want to look slim and chic in my wedding dress for our wedding.

So I’m also on weight watchers and love their chicken garlic pizzas, they are so delish!

  • Thanks for this! I was doing so well up until last month when we were visiting family in Toronto and I put on three pounds. Uggh! I’m finding it really hard to get going again but maybe I can jump on the bandwagon with you and stop the snacking! I hate the first few weeks of hunger pains though and I’m mad at myself for eating too much on vacation so that now I have to go through it all over again.

  • Here’s to your Flex Points!!! Enjoy the treat at the end of the week!

  • Remember light popcorn is a good snack too, you can eat lots and I know for me it is the ‘hand to mouth’ syndrome. I have lost 13 pounds in the past 8 weeks!

You should ask your readers to post their fav low cal snacks! That way I won’t get bored with what I am eating ;-)

  • If it is any consolation- when I saw you on Thursday- you looked fab-tastic.

  • […] (aka Kickyboots), who recently gave birth to her second beautiful daughter, has started Weight Watchers again.  As I wrote back in June, I did Weight Watchers earlier this year and did alright at it.  Not as […]
