Rough

You know things at home are a little rough when you glance at the calendar, note that you have a dental appointment nearing, and actually find yourself looking forward to having the tartar scraped off your teeth with a big ol’ pointy doo-hicky since it means you’ll be away for an entire blissful hour from the kids and the snot and the wailing and the snot, and the fevers. Oh, and the snot.

In short, this winter has sucked.  Avelyn has another ear infection (her fifth in two years so they’re sending us to see an Ear-Nose-Throat specialist) and has been even more grumpy than usual.  And Jolie has a terrible cough and awful congestion that makes it hard for her to breathe clearly (read: we’re not getting any sleep). We’ve all been cooped up in the house for too long and I think we’re all more than a little tired of each other.

Again, I know that these trials are insignificant in the face of a crumbling economy and violence in the Middle East, but COME ON, immune systems!  Do your duties!!!

I am off to make dinner for the first time this month (and that is only a slight exaggeration).  Going to try Hamburger Soup.  I hope your weeks are shaping up better than ours!

  • Oh no! I feel your pain on the ear infection front. My daughter just got diagnosed yesterday with a double! Lovely.

Hope everyone is feeling better soon.

  • Hah! Maybe I should book myself in to a dentist. I’ve spent most of the morning trying to decide between running away and running away. *sigh* Spring cannot come too soon this year….

  • It’s so nice to know that with my feelings of running away and overwhelmed-ness of motherhood and winter, I’m not alone.

Sorry to hear about the Avelyns ear infection. :(

  • I just want you to know ear tubes were a great thing for our son. You are juggling a lot with two wee ones. Each day is closer to a better day!

  • Just wondering if you need a ride to the dentist.

And LOL @ snot and sucked. Something about those 2 things together made me giggle a little.

  • ANOTHER ear infection? BOO.

  • That’s me! Well, sort of – I don’t have the sick children but I do have a sick husband and a cranky daughter and Thursday morning I’m going to the dentist and I can’t wait! (Although I am terrified because of poverty I haven’t been in years. YEARS.)

  • It never crossed my mind that I would have to be alone to go to the dentist. I have taken the baby with me to the FP doctor, the psychiatrist, the OB/GYN but the dentist, that requires concentration. Good idea. If Avelyn does get tubes they should make a big difference. I will hope and pray your house calms down soon!

  • I feel for you with the appointment. When I was pregnant with my 3rd baby I mentioned to the doctor that he wasn’t moving as much as he used to. My doctor became concerned and sent me for a fetal movement test (or something like that) where I had to lay on a hospital bed and drink juice while they monitored how many times the baby moved in a set amount of time. I remember laying there and thinking “THIS is what I have to do to get a break in the afternoon…”

  • I LOVE hamburger soup…soooooooo good. Makes me think of warm winter comfort food. That’s sure to bring a little happiness and relief from the stuffy noses. Be good to yourself, find time for you where you can and everything will be back to normal in no time. Hugs

  • Hamburger soup is goooood. Also, I’ve been stuck in a house for a few winters with whining and snot and I think the economic crisis is small cookies in the face of THAT. Also, my sister in law told me today she’s thinking of doing WW and I told her I would join her, and I just wanted to mention, hoping that it might make your day, that your starting weight is my goal weight.

  • Ear infections suck. I’m sorry winter had been so rough on you all. :( Hope the Hamburger Soup has magical curative powers!

  • That IS rough. I hope you enjoyed your time away, even if it had to be at the dentist.

  • go have a starbucks after the dentist…stretch out your alone time by 15 minutes to enjoy something sweet! you deserve it!

  • Don’t know if you’ve ever considered it but it might be an idea to check into taking Avelyn to a chiropractor. I know many people aren’t fond of them but I used to have an awesome one that could help children that have chronic ear infections. You could ask around and/or go for a consult as an alternative option. Ear infections suck…boo!! May you all be healthy soon!!

  • Praying for God’s peace to descend upon you, and for His everlasting joy to strengthen every part of your being. He IS the rewarder of those who diligently seek Him; there are great things for you on the other side of this trial. Stay strong! :) HUGS!

  • Ugh. I feel your pain. My 10 month old was just diagnosed with a double ear infection and RSV. And she’s teething. Just cut her first tooth a few days ago. It’s been NO fun at my house either. :(

    COME ON, SPRING!!
