Friends Are Swell, My Girl

Too Much Atwood

I have been reading too much Margaret Atwood and watching too many heavy documentaries on CBC, both of which leave me feeling as though the world around me is going to pot and there’s nothing we can do to stop it.

Petroleum products could be the cause of the extinction of our species, and Oryx and Crake and The Year of the Flood both have some eerie parallels with where our world is headed today. Gah.

Anyways, let’s forget about that and focus on the good we can immerse ourselves in, shall we? Like beach days in April.

Is it just me, or can you totally see what she’s going to look like when she’s 16?

We love it when friends come over to play.

And here’s a dose of reality, just for the fun of it.

  • Beach day in April? I’m totally jealous. I’m in Texas and we haven’t had the guts to get in our suits yet. By the by, my daughter’s name buddy is just GORGEOUS. Wailing or not. :)

  • We were warmer than you guys today. Some sort of Spring miracle. :)

Avelyn is so cute … even mid scream.

  • Love your blog’s new look Amanda.
I sure can get feeling that way after too much heavy reading. I have a love / hate relationship with Margaret Atwood for that very reason. I try to space out her novels by at least a year or two. (The Year of the Flood looks really good though – did you enjoy it?)
The beach is a great antidote. I think. Avelyn sort of looks like she was reading too much Atwood herself. Happy beach season!

  • I think the last pic of Avelyn gives you a better idea of what she will look like at 16! I love that kid!

  • I’m thinking you need to pick up some Sophie Kinsella, or maybe some Roald Dahl? I just finished the BFG and the whizpopping chapter alone should lighten your mood. It’s spring! Lighten up already! :)

  • Oh yeah, I agree with EM … read some Sophie Kinsella to lighten the mood :-)
