I Need Thee Every Hour

I think this goes without saying, but I am finding life with three kids KIND OF NUTS. I knew I would. I was having a hard enough time with just the older two crazies, and now I’m spending my nights snuggling a sweet baby who isn’t keen on sleeping in longer than three-hour increments (and that’s a good stretch). Brinley is such a good baby, though. I hesitate to write about her easy-going nature and contentedness, for fear that she’ll turn on me and become a colicky screamer. She’s getting so big already and I find myself sniffing her fuzzy head at three a.m. and savouring the scent since I know she’s our last baby and while I am tired beyond belief, it’s a strange feeling to know that this will be my last round of sleepless nights with a newborn.

Here are some photos of the past few weeks:

(Only Avelyn takes ballet but Karenna insists on dressing like a dancer when we go and watch her class on Saturday mornings.)

When Brinley was a week old, my Great Aunt and Aunt came to visit to sneak in some cuddles with their newborn niece and also to celebrate Karenna’s birthday. It was so nice to see my extended family and feel connected to people who’ve known me my whole life. (Karenna is also taking it upon herself to learn the fine art of ruining a photograph. I’ve taught her well.)

Steve has risen to the challenge of life with three kids and has been so hands-on, since he really has no choice in the matter at this point. He’s been so great tending to the older kids especially, if when they wake up in the nights so I don’t have a total nervous breakdown. Go, Steve!!

It’s been just over a week since my maid/nanny/cheerleader (aka: my MOMMA) left and it’s been good for us to find our own rhythm and routine amidst the chaos. I don’t think I would have made it through the first few weeks without her unending support and help, but it’s been good to just have to jump into the frigid waters of The Life With Three Kids Ocean with both feet and have no choice but to tread water for myself and even try to swim a little. There are lots of days where my head is barely above water, but we’re making it. And having some fun, even. Okay, that last part was a lie, but I’m trying to think positively. :)

No, really, life is good. Brinley is the perfect addition to our family and we are finding our way.

  • Yikes lady! Before you know it, though, Brinley will be entering kindergarten and you’ll wonder where your three little girls went and you’ll look upon this crazy time with a smile.

    :)

  • You look fabulous! I’m so glad that she has a sweet temper and I hope it lasts. The picture of the girls all dressed up made me want to cry because on Friday Adora announced that she wants to quit ballet. It’s the beginning of her fifth year! waaaah!

  • You DO look fabulous! From a year down the road with three, I do think it gets easier ;). Love that gorgeous family of yours!!

  • I agree with your first comment. I am there. Enjoy this crazy time as it will fly by before you know it and funny enough, you may miss having three little ones underfoot.

  • Karenna’s face in the 2nd picture is classic. I really did lol.

  • And so we have come full circle. I clearly remember being pregnant with my third girl, following your blog from afar (trying to remember what it was like before ANY kids at all) – and now my youngest and your oldest are friends. And we both have three girls. So crazy how things turn out. What a beautiful family you have, Amanda. i am so glad we have become friends!

  • Well I’m so interestedMake cashon the webWilling to do whatever it takes – this blog helps me the most

  • aww..too sweet. I need to come visit soon!

  • You’re getting into the swing of it AND look amazing while doing so. :)

That photo with Karenna making the face made me laugh. I love that kid.

  • You appear like you are handling it so great. I often think you make 3 kids look easier than I make one kid look. The other day Andy said to me ” You’ll probably start driving to Superstore and shopping with the kids quite a bit eh?” and I’m like “Um, I don’t know, how do I fit three kids in a cart plus shopping?” and he said “well Amanda goes all over town with 3!” so yeah, you are pretty much our hero.
