Family Matters, My Girl, My Girl 2.0

For the First Time, Timber!

Growing up, my family always had an artificial Christmas tree. We’d hang tinsel on it, our cats would eat the silvery strands and the next morning we’d accidentally step in piles of hot cat tinsel-barf. Good times.

This year Steve decided that we were going out into the bush to chop down our very own real, live tree. And we did it! We conquered nature and have held her captive in our living room. It was such a fun little jaunt into the wilderness and we all had such a great time looking for the perfect tree, climbing up a snowy hill to reach it, then watching Daddy rev up the chainsaw and, with gasoline-soaked smoke in the air, slice through the trunk.

In every photo, Karenna’s expressions just kill me. That kid is such a nut and I love it.

Requisite family shot with the fallen tree.

Trimming the tree.

Now it’s all up and here I sit in the dark, by the gleaming lights, feeling just a little more ready for Christmas. The Bailey’s in my hot chocolate helps a little, too.

  • aw….so fun! The girls look so excited! :)

  • Cute! Corey wishes he could have been there too.

  • I’ve so been there with the cat tinsel-barf! Why oh why so they think tinsel should be eaten? The bottom third of our tree is noticeably lacking tinsel because that’s the only way my husband will allow me to put it on and I quite like tinsel.

  • Being apartment dwellers means that fake is all we got. No live trees allowed. So, we fluff up the branches and try to make it work. I’d love a real tree but I’ll settle with what we can have! Love the pics of Karenna! So much expression!

  • Good for you! Nothing like a real tree. What a lovely scent must be in your house – Bailey’s sounds good too!

Enjoy, before you have to clean it up!

    Great pictures!
