Domesticity

Surprisingly Not Awful

I have lamented my lack of domestic ability many times here on this ol’ blog. I suck at cleaning, I’m a lazy cook, and I have no idea how to decorate our home. I want to be better at all of these things, but I keep letting other things get in the way. Things like coffee dates and afternoons at the beach and evening visits with friends and family.

But this morning I found myself at a new thrift store in town with the kids, looking for back-to-school clothes when I saw a pair of vintage frames that caught my eye. They had weird oil paintings in them, but I saw potential, so I bought them (six bucks each!) and came home and got my CRAFT ON. There were material scraps flying, there was hot glue, there were Scrabble pieces. (Yes, Jen, I totally stole your idea. Deal with it.)

They might seem small and/or tacky to you, but they made my day and restored a bit of faith in myself that maybe, just maybe, someday I’ll make this house a home.

  • I want one that says, “I usually have weed on my person.”
also, I smell an Etsy shop. hi, amandas_hat. nice to meet’cha.

  • I think they’re great.

  • Looks great! I won’t sue. ;)

  • I think they are awesome! Don’t let your ‘undomesticness’ get you down; you have the important things figured out! I have a ceramic book with a poem written on it – all I can remember is that dishes and cobwebs won’t change but your kids and people do, so don’t miss them while worrying about stuff that will always be there!

  • I also have plans to steal Jen’s idea for my new house. Looks AWESOME!

  • I love them! Great job. :)

  • Love! So copying this for my craft room!

  • Awesome! (And to be fair, there are a lot of people with beautifully decorated homes who lack coffee dates, afternoons at the beach, visits with friends and family, let alone an internet-writing gig and all the other wonderful things you do.)

I have a scrabble-tile project in mind myself.
