Little O' This, My Girl

Samedi

We drove uptown to run a few errands. The little tasks were all done and I realized I had forgotten to pack the stroller. But the crisp fall afternoon was too good to miss a walk in so I sneaked a cart out of the drug store and we bumped our way down the main street, your chubby thighs, in tights, bouncing as we rolled over cobblestone. We looked like a couple of vagabonds: just you, me and a shopping cart. We went to the thrift store and tried on funny hats that used to belong to old ladies. You laughed as I put the woolen newsboy cap on your head and you caught a glimpse of yourself in the foggy mirror. When we came home we crunched fallen leaves under the walnut tree then fished an apple from the harvest bin and you’re munching on it right now as you run laps around the living room and I’m typing this so I won’t forget why this Saturday felt so good.
