Family Matters, My Girl

A Little Too Appropriate

Avelyn is a borderline strong-willed child. For the most part she’s happy and content but if you take something away that’s hers, or tell her “No” in a firm voice, or put her in her carseat when she’d rather be running laps around the orchard, she turns into a dragon. So that’s what she went as for Halloween this year.

Remember last year? Oh, how I loved that costume! I bought it without telling Steve and while he thought it was cute he didn’t see it as a justified expense, especially after the shipping and duty I had to pay on it. (For the record, it was a mere $19.99 before all the taxes and what not! Hey, Big Spender!) So when the first of October rolled around and I asked him, “So what should Avelyn be for Halloween this year?” he responded with “Whatever you want. So long as you DON’T SPEND A DIME.”

Costume Nazi.*

I put it off and didn’t feel confident enough in my (lack of) sewing skills to piece a costume together. So when Christy volunteered her son’s old dragon costume for yesteryear for Avelyn to borrow, I jumped at her generosity. It turned out to be pretty dang cute, and also quite suiting to her personality at times.

She had a great Halloween and we loved watching her experience watching kids come to the door for candy, and even venturing out for a little trick-or-treating of her own.

Even the Costume Nazi got into the Halloween spirit and enjoyed the festivities (and a few dozen Oh Henry bars).

Hope you all had Happy Halloweens!

PS: Here’s a shot of my curtains.

*Just kidding, Steve. I love you!

Sweet curtains! I really do need to see them in person.

    Love the pics :)

  • Oh she’s ADORABLE (as are you, my dear).

I swear, all these blogs with adorable kiddos dressed as robots and monkeys and dragons and mummies and skunks and such MAKE ME WANT A BABY.

I’m going to need to drink a lot to get over the sadness of only having a dog to dress up.

The blogosphere = driving me to drink.

  • Awww, she looks adorable! ROWR! Also, the curtains look great, as do the pumpkins!

  • So, so cute. And what a great view you have!

  • Is it any coincidence that they were both purple monsters…I don’t think so!!! Soul mates.

  • I want to give that little dragon a hug! I LOVE the bird’s eye view shot :)

Paige is a few days older than Avelyn, and she is incredibly strong willed! She’s happy and smiley, but whoa nelly…! if you try to pick her up when she prefers to walk, or it’s time to put the toys away, or her sister grabs something from her — Paige will lay on the floor, sobbing (sometimes fake), or she’ll roll over and put her face in her hands. I thought Cancers were supposed to be docile caretakers?

  • Chris and I were just recently talking about how so many times, depending of course on the region of residence, costumes have to be warm and! fun. But warm.

I love the dragon. And see? Warm and! fun. And purple!

  • Perhaps I’ve been spending too much time on NoBloShoePoMo (dear god, what IS that acronym?), but I just have to say: I love your coat. Perfect.

And your kid’s pretty darn cute too.
