I did not realize what a cloudy fog of sleep deprivation I was clawing through during Avelyn’s first few weeks. All I could do was think of the next 20 minutes and plead with the heavens that I’d get to close my eyes for a few fleeting moments. As she has gotten older (seven weeks tomorrow; how the time flies!) and has taken to sleeping for gloriously humane periods of time I have slowly been emerging from the haze. Around week five I noticed that the thought of unloading the dishwasher while she slept didn’t make me want to weep with exhaustion. Then the week after that I started going for the occasional walk and the sensation of propelling my jiggly legs up the hills in our neighbourhood was actually invigorating. And yesterday I made a roast beef dinner complete with mashed potatoes and peach crisp for dessert.
Say it with me, now: Supermom.
I’m kidding, of course.
If you saw the dust on my window sills and the dog hair on my carpet you’d scoff at such a title.
Anyways, I am feeling great and enjoying the days with my girl.
A while ago someone asked if I had been battling any baby blues. After a moment’s thought I realized that no, I hadn’t. Aside from my li’l meltdown on day five postpartum and a few snappy replies to Steve, I have been balanced and rational.
But I take no credit for my sanity.
If it weren’t for the amazing help and support of my parents who came and stayed for two weeks, and all of my fellow SAHM friends with whom I chat daily, as well as this shiny, happy land called the Internet where people I have never met shower me with love and encouragement, I am sure I would be in much rougher shape from dealing with all of the huge life changes.
So thank you, all!
The season premiere of House starts in 6 minutes.
Needless to say, this is where I exit.

You forgot to add that you always look AMAZING :)
I’m so glad your journey to mommyhood has been a good one! It looks great on you! The season premiere of House, so so good.
That is so awesome that you have a great support network! That was a REALLY good episode of House! I can’t wait for next week’s episode though… aliens!
Just wanted you guys to know how much i love ya! You’re the best cousins a girl could ever ask for.
I always said that I was doing good back when Jaia was first born and I was, but it seems to get better everyday. It feels so good to get out for a nice walk, we just need that damn smoke to leave! And it feels awesome when you cook your first big meal.
Yay for you!
Glad everything’s going so well for you :)
