I hesitate to mention this, for fear of the almighty Blopposite Phenomenon (when you blog about something, the opposite happens the next day), but since we’ve been back from Hawaii, Avelyn has been a completely different child. She sits patiently in her car seat as we drive to town, she is sleeping through the night without demanding a 3 am bottle, she is jovial and easy to laugh when we’re at the shopping mall, and she is talking up a storm. I don’t know what not having one’s parents around for 10 days does to the psyche of a 19 month-old, but I am liking the results. Perhaps she is thinking, “Maybe if I’m really good, Mom and Dad won’t ditch me again. Owell, at least I got a bikini out the deal.” Honestly, it seems like she didn’t even really notice we were gone since she was in such loving care the whole time we were away.
I have been finding it hard to get back into the normal patterns of life after our holiday. Still battling this first trimester fatigue, vacuuming the floor feels like scaling Mount Kilimanjaro and filing our paperwork feels like tweezing my toe hairs. Instead I’ve been moping on the couch. That always helps, doesn’t it?
Today I headed into town and ran some errands with my shockingly compliant toddler and had a slight burst of energy in the afternoon that resulted in a little laundry folding and some casual tidying. I feel a bit better now, and more motivated to keep up this awe-inspiring momentum.
I know that I will begin nesting in earnest once we find out the sex of the baby (in a mere six weeks!) and I will force Steve to haul his office downstairs so we can get the nursery ready. I am hoping that will also be my kick-start to get this whole messy house of ours in order too.  How is it possible for so much junk and clutter to accumulate in a single household? Oh right, I’m lazy. Then I complain about it. Seems to be working out well.

Moping on the couch is my panacea of choice. Preferably with someone to fetch me snacks. (The former happens all the time; the latter, not so much.)
I just purged half the stuff in our house. Feels good, feels good. But, then I remember the mountain of stuff in the garage that needs to go to Goodwill, and I shudder.
Yep, I can relate. HOwever…. not pregnant anymore.. uh oh!
Here’s hoping she keeps up the happy toddler routine!!
You lucky-non-morning-sickness-girl ;) I hope your energy streak sticks around for a while!
Awwww! Avelyn must be so happy you are home! Hope you feel energized soon!
I saw Avelyn yesterday. Adele stopped by. She was really cute and smiley! Jaia and her really liked playing that one day at tumble time. We should meet at the park some time. Glad you babe is “being good”. Read my blog to hear the opposite around here. J-bean is great, till I put him for his nap or bed time. Then the claws come out. OUCH!
Glad you’re having some good days post vacation, sometimes coming home is harder than being away!
It was easy. The last day we were there, I told Avelyn that if she were good until Easter, Daddy would buy her a new Honda Odyssey van.
Good one Grandpa, good one!
Yep, it was definitely all the pep talks that the fam gave her. I sat her down for a serious tete-a-tete too but shoes were my bribery…glad it’s (whatever it is!) is working!
While I have no pregnancy energy zap to blame, I completely understand the desire to mope on the couch instead of clean. I’m not a dirty person by any means, but it annoys the bajeezus out of me that I dust and vacuum, only to have to dust and vacuum AGAIN a short while later! And finding a home for clutter is another evil…but once I purge and arrange, it’s oh so satisfying to see my dining table in all its vacant glory!
I’m SO with you on the messy house, laziness, and complaining about it! Yes, sitting on the couch IS easier and WAY MORE enjoyable.
It’s amazing how much a toddler can change in 10 days – I usually have to re-train my child when she comes back from her grandparents – you struck gold getting a BETTER child back!!
