Brace yourselves. An image is about to appear below that may very well haunt your dreams and frighten your children. Everyone has been so kind in their comments about my new haircut and I feel like I am living a lie.
This is what my hair looks like when I wake up:
I have to take my daily showers at night, once Avelyn has gone to bed, so I can enjoy some peace and quiet while the hot water courses over me. By the time I need to go to bed I am often too tired (read: lazy) to bother blow drying my hair so I go to sleep with wet hair. When I wake up I am greeted by the Bedhead To End All Bedheads. This photo is what it looks like, exactly. I didn’t poof or tease it for exaggeration’s sake; it’s the real deal. Add to that no make-up and a few fresh new pregnancy zits and you’ll realize that Steve is a lucky man to wake up to this every morning.
I usually re-wet my hair using the shower head attachment and then proceed to blow dry and straighten it, thus rendering me nearly presentable for public life.
This everyday miracle is made possible by concealer, lip gloss and a salon quality hair straightener*.
*To all the women out there with unruly waves or a thick, tangled head of hair, the best investment you can make is to purchase a good hair straightener. I bought mine four years ago and paid $150 for it and have used it every day (no lie!) since, so that works out to, what, like three cents a day? Totally worth it. For my sake and that of the general public.

You really clean up beautifully! Although I kind of love the unruly curls in the first picture. Us straight-as-a-board girls are all a little envious, I’m sure.
And you’re not going to know who I’m talking about, I’m sure, but in that first picture I think you look a lot like Haley from One Tree Hill (this season). And I think she’s gorgeous, so that’s a total compliment.
The second picture is definitely an improvement, but the 1st picture isn’t really all that bad, aside from the crazy hair, which is still kinda perfect in its craziness! I have very fine hair and not a whole lot of it, but it’s rather wavy as well and I concur that the flat iron is the best damn invention evah!
You’re so cute. This pregnancy is just tickin’ along, how’s it going?
I love this!!! I do the exact same thing: shower at night, too lazy to blow dry, crazy hair in the morning, re-wet and fix. And to think, all this time I was so sure I was the only one who did it this way! I also agree that a hair straightener is a wonderful investment and can’t believe how many years I waited to get one. Since you said you use yours every day, do you have any tips on how to keep it from frying your hair? Your hair looks fantastic, by the way.
I thought your hair looked pretty when it was all crazy. I have farily straight, thin hair and would love to have some waves.
That is GREAT!
Holy shmolie! That 1st. pic looks just like Steve (your bro) with a wig on…man you guys look alike!
The new “tamed” do looks very chic I must say.

Hah! I love my new short hair cut but I agree, waking up is kind of terrifying! My hair is even a little too short for successful use of my straightening iron but whatever I have to do, there is no way I can leave the house without some kind of hair rescue!
Totally do the SAME thing….shower at night….but, I can get away with just straightening it without re-wetting….try it once…I swear, it works. plus, i have a great hair straightener…made by babybliss…about $150 too. YAY for products like that….they better our lives. Oh, and makeup too :-)
That first picture cracked me up! My hubby gets to wake up to something similar when I have to shower at night. I have the straightest hair ever yet going to be with it wet produces the same wavy madness you’ve got going on. Aside from that though, you don’t do too bad w/out makeup, zits and all!
Whoa! That could rival Megan’s bedhead. Truly.
PS. LOVING the current belly shot.
I think you should style your hair curly once in a while! Other than the unruly back of your head, your curls look gorgeous! I am jealous. I love the belly shots, keep them coming! And tell Steve that its not mom hair, all the cool kids are doing it.
seriously…i like the waves. i think they look sexy!
I kinda like the just out of bed look. It’s very close to the “whoorl”. =)
Cool post idea. I love the bed head!
One word…WOW!
heh! my hair looks the same-ish in the mornings – but I’m getting up before D wakes to shower so I’m presentable at work, maybe I should try the shower at night too…
I will agreee that there really is nothing better than a salon-quality straightener. I was living a lie all those years when I told myself it was ridiculous to spend all that money on a flat iron. Well, I was wrong and my CHI is my baby, my love, my “take me from puffy frizz to silky straight” morning companion…
Plus, in all seriousness, the better quality (ie. more expensive) irons are better for your hair. Not so much the pulling and frying, etc. My hair seems so much more healthier now.
Those waves are nice, I have red baby fine straight hair, but lots of it. I think Avelyn has your eyes..without your eye makeup it is really obvious.
Your hair is hysterical
I too must sing the praises of my CHI iron, bought through my stylist at her discount (bless her heart!).
Okay- some days your before picture is my AFTER picture. BOO. My hair is naturally straight but would love it to have some of your volume in your before shot!
Have you ever tried keeping the curls? The straightness is awfully cute though!
THIS is why we are soul mates. I love how you exploit yourself as much as me. I do the same thing…I can only shower at night, I can not imagine working itin during the day and my hair is naturally curly so it looks like my head exploded in the morning too….awesome…couldn’t love you more!!!
It’s the curse of the short hair cut/wavy hair combo. I have this same look in the morning. When the Mister tells me I’m beautiful in the morning, I know it’s all just a ploy to get me to put out, but I’ll take it.
The stoller, the stroller! I want to see the stroller!!!!
Haha–On Monday (lest you don’t think I’m stalking/copying you!)–I just did a post with nearly the same title.
You have chutzpa for posting the a.m. picture. And I’m fairly certain that I’m your morning-hair-twin.
