Friends Are Swell, Little O' This, Pregnancy

Bang On…Or Not. Yes, Not.

Thanks to everyone for the candid advice about bangs. I think that those of you in the “you might regret it…when you’re 9 months pregnant it’s NO TIME to experiment with your hair…plus, you’re going to be kind of homely and tired for like three months after the baby is born and do you really want to be messing with bangs then?!” camp are right on. I needed to hear that. I think you have saved me from certain death. So thanks.

In other news, this is what I need this afternoon:

Natalie Dee makes me laugh.

I am now scheduled for weekly prenatal appointments. As in, I only have five left and then WHAM! Out comes the kid. I also met with our doula last week, the same wonderful woman who was there when Avelyn oozed into the world. We talked about my expectations and hopes for this labour and I realized that I am pretty laissez-faire about the whole deal. Let’s try for a natural birth, and let’s try to be more relaxed, but if after 38 hours I am stuck at 4 cm, please pierce my back with an eight-foot needle and let’s call it a day. I know that a natural birth is ideal, but if my body refuses to cooperate like it did last time then I am going to feel no guilt or sense of failure about accepting an epidural.

I still have a few nesting activities to scratch off my list like:

1. Rearrange the kitchen pantry. It looks like an irritable hurricane spun through there and while I kind of know where stuff is, it’s pretty terrible.

2. Hang the curtains and photos in the baby’s room. I had originally been waiting for Steve to do this, but I grew impatient and got a little trigger-happy with the power drill last week. I was all, “I can TOTALLY hang a curtain rod.” That was a downright lie. I made a mockery of the notion of “centered” and there are tons of random holes where there shouldn’t be. I also tried to hang three pictures above the crib. The first one? No problem. Then I was like, “I’ll just eyeball the other two. I’m sure they’ll be level.” Another lie. Again, holes in bad places. Steve just laughed when he came home and saw the piles of drywall dust and destruction.

3. Make some food to freeze. However, I feel so unmotivated to whip up a dozen steaming slabs of lasagna since it’s been such a sweltering summer. Perhaps we’ll just live on microwave popcorn and pizza pops for the first few months after the baby arrives.

That’s all. Really, I just want to get those blasted curtains and pictures hung. The rest can wait until 2012.

  • We are so glad it’s not long for you now. It’ll be great to meet that second little brownie, and see the millions upon million photos you post! Hope you’re feeling ok, and we’re praying that this labour is a breeze and that everything goes just like you want it too!

  • Wow! Time sure flies by! Can’t wait to see pictures of the nursery!

  • I found with my second childbirth it was WAY easier. Any friends I talked to agree – “the road has been paved” as we say. Good luck! I’m expecting #3 soon, right around your due date I think – August 30th. Hoping for early!

  • You are so funny. I love the diet coke bong!
Way to go with the natural chilbirth! That is something I really really wanted but it never happened for me. Baby number 1 was breech and baby number two I labored for 27 hrs and no dialation. So I am scheduled for my third c-section for Sept. 1st. ICK! I will keep you and your labor in prayers.

  • Yes, your body has a sense of “been here done that” when it comes to your second delivery. My second child literally flew out so fast he forgot to take a breathe, but he was/is fine.

Enjoy this special time with Avelyn before she is crowned Princess Big Sister!

  • I totally need one of those Diet Coke bongs. Just think of how instant the caffeine buzz will be!

  • I totally feel you on needing the diet coke funnel. That would be amazing right now!

And I am just as bad at eyeballing pictures when I hang them. It seems so simple, but it never is. Sigh…

  • I need a Diet Coke bong at 1:00 PM every day.

Can’t wait to see the nursery (extra holes and all!)

  • Hey do you have a crock pot? Do you want some crock pot recipes? I’ve got some nifty ones that are super duper easy to double and then you wouldn’t have to ‘slave’ over them per se, you could just um… not slave over them.
Because gosh darn it if you just lived closer, I’d make the damn meals FOR you.
But let me know if you want the recipes, I’ll type them up for you and send em over…

  • I LOVE that picture. And epidurals.

  • I think you were probably right about the bangs. I keep thinking about getting bangs but I KNOW I would have to “style” them to make them look good and right now it is all I can do to get into the shower to keep the spit-up out of my hair so bangs and a baby would not be a good idea.

You are so close! I wanted the whole natural birth thing too – until we found out she was breach and wasn’t moving, and then I just wanted her out!

  • Ok, heres an idea. Get some one to plan a freezer shower for you BEFORE baby arrives. Everyone brings something for you stock your freezer with. Badda-big-badda-boom!

And if anyone is reading this who knows me and feels like throwing me a shower once we have another child. I would like one too please!
