Family Matters, My Girl 2.0

Two More Days

That’s how much longer my mom is here for.  She and my dad arrived from the prairies the day after Jolie was born and they have been taking most excellent care of us.  My dad left last week after pulling our yard full of ten-foot tall weeds around our property and my mom has been here on her own since then, feeding Jolie, snuggling her, cooking our dinners, tidying up behind us, and taking the first half of the night shift with a newborn so I can get five hours of uninterrupted sleep.  It’s been amazing and I am making mental notes of all the things I want to do for my grown children one day.  Thanks, you two.  There are no words that adequately convey how grateful I am for all your help.

And Jolie is thriving and growing and stealing bigger pieces of our hearts everyday.

While we’re on the subject of my new baby girl, let’s clear up any questions about her name.  We are pronouncing it with a soft ‘J’ (as in “Zsa Zsa Gabor”) and have placed the accent on the second syllable.  So her name has a little bit of a French flair to it, when pronounced properly.  Think of yourself as wearing a little beret and a black and white striped shirt, holding a fresh baguette, whenever you say her name and you’ll probably get it right.  Her name is not JOE-lie, but Jo-LEE (again, the soft ‘J’ makes or breaks it, if you ask me).  Hope that makes sense.

Good night, all.

  • Do they make baby berets? Because I really think she should have one.

  • I NEED to snuggle her!
Almost as much as I NEED to see you.

  • She is so sweet. Camille says that Jolie is her baby sister, too. She’s smitten.

  • So is it Jolie, like Angelina Jolie? not meaning that you named her after the actress, i just mean is that how you say her name?

  • I could just nibble her up – What a sweetheart!!! I love that photo! Sounds like your parents have done an awesome job taking care of you! Thanks for clarifying the pronounciation of Jolie’s name, I love it even more now!

  • she’s amazing. so sweet.

and i was hoping that was how you pronounced her name! love it.

  • Her name is just lovely… congrats and blessings to you and your family.

And I agree… there’s nothing like your own mother to help you in those first few tender, vulnerable weeks with a newborn.

  • Very sweet. Love how you pronounce the name!

  • Beautiful name, beautiful girl.

  • There is something so awesome about having your Mom and Dad there to pitch in and help out the first few days.

I love that photo of Jolie, what a cutie pie.

  • What a sweet picture of your babe. Jolie looks so much older than 2 weeks to me.

  • Great capture Amanda! I love her.

It’s been a few days – I need my Jolie fix!

  • Being from Quebec and speaking french every day I was pronouncing the way you explained and it’s beautiful, just like the definition of the word in french!

  • She is SO ADORABLE!! I love those cheeks!!

  • That is the second baby name that has required a full description of pronounciation. Funny what is lost through blogging. I much prefer the soft sound you have given to the name over the hard JOE sound our Canadian accent can give it. Beautiful family Manda.

  • She is so stinkin cute. I just want to snuggle her and smother her with kisses.

  • Those cheeks are adorable, and it looks like she’s sucking on her lower lip. Sweet!

  • She is soooo adorable! So cute at such a young age. Usually it takes ’em longer to get that cute!

  • The CUTEST picture! What a sweetie.

  • That is just the sweetest baby ever! Such a cute picture.

  • Such a cute picture! It is so very awesome that your parents are able to be there to support you like they do! Hope the transition goes well when they have to leave, but even if the first few days are rough, you’ll find your groove!

  • Thanks for clearing that up. I’ve been wondering if I’d gotten it right. (And yes, pronunciation, even if it’s only in your own head, does count!)
