I didn’t make it.
A few weeks ago I took the bait and applied to be a contestant on Deal or No Deal. The application form was long and involved and I answered the kooky questions in my typical witty fashion. I fired off the completed fields and that’s when my hopes began to rise.
"What if they choose me? What if I get the chance to win some big bucks? What if I get to be on TV and have millions of people watch me become filthy rich? I am totally getting a maid. Oh yeah, and a college fund for Avelyn. And we’re totally going to demolish this house and build a new mansion overlooking the lake. How could they NOT ask me to come for an audition?! I was really WITTY in my application!"
The deadline for applications was November 17 and those chosen to come for an audition would be contacted by November 28.
Yeah, that’s today.
Still no word.
I am assuming they didn’t like my wit.
Geez.
This totally reminds me of how I felt when I was 13 and in lust with Jonathan Taylor Thomas. I would blow my measly allowance on the latest issue of Bop, tear out the glorious centerfold of JTT in a flannel shirt, coyly smiling at me, and I would gaze into his eyes and daydream about how awesome it would be to meet him. I was convinced that if I could just be granted one single date with him he would totally fall for me. C’mon, I was chubby, but WITTY! How could he refuse?
Obviously, I never got that date with my dreamboat.
And now I’ve been overlooked again, Howie Mandel style.

If it helps, I will come right out and admit that I, too, bought Bop in my youth (I read it for the articles). In addition, however, I was the proud owner of an actual biography of Leonardo DiCaprio (unauthorized; how scandalous!). Did I post the free postcards that came with it around my room? Yes, indeed. Feel any better?

I had Bop wallpaper… by wallpaper I mean I tore out and posted the same kind of thing all over my room until you could no longer see the paint. Oh did I love the Leo. Oi. I am now going to be on a mission to see if anyone captured that mess on film!
My mom applied for the Deal or No Deal show as well. No word for her either and she put a very funky little rhyme in hers.
sometimes those people on the show are so annoying!! i hope you wouldn’t have been one of the ones to do weird things that just make the viewing awkward;)
Dana filled out the application too, and the reason why you weren’t called is because WE WERE! LOL- totally joking. We can whollow in our misery together. Oh, Howie. WHy????

Hey Amanda, I too have a sore throat that warrants a new one, but so far I haven’t found a ‘throat store’ down here. They have other parts, bear parts, etc. but not the ones you & I need. My cough is mending I think, then it flares up again at the most inconvenient times – like when I answer the door, or the telephone… Rylie, Smudge & Bandit got their annual shots yesterday, so this household could do with some fun from Avelyn, who I might add is the cutest, sweetest, smilest (?) doll & I miss her terribly. I’ll get my fix of all of you when you get home from Sask. after Christmas. It looks like you will have lots of Brown visitors with KB & ??, TB & ??, SB & R. Then Jen B.& family & JB are going to WBk. so we are all going to party for Christ’s Day even after Dec. 25/06. Are you going to be up to all us B’s? It
will be a busy-B time. :} I wish I could be there now A. when you are not feeling so great – to fold laundry, help take care of Av., cook you up some goodies, & to love up St. too. Whoops, hi to Rolo too. Trev dropped in with a veg. pizza (I know you don’t like pizza!!)for me. He has truly been a sweetheart, looking after & having fun with his Mama down here. Did you know KB has a ?? ? ‘Must go, Love ya Lots, Sy/Mom

Mark applied as well, and man their application was long and tough. It took forever to come up with witty and interesting stuff and it does feel like a slap in the face that he wasn’t at least a finalist.
I think you would have made an awesome contestant. I say we revolt and refuse to watch the show when it airs in Canada.

I tried to be on Deal or No Deal too, and didn’t read the rules until I was almost done. Turns out I wasn’t eligible to enter in the first place.

Misery loves company, I guess…I too filled out all of the bazillion questions and poured forth all of my charm–only to have the door slammed rudely in my face. I even included a wedding picture as my picture of myself–WHO TURNS DOWN A BRIDE?!?
Hi Amanada- I am a sometimes lurker on your blog- found you through Angella, who I found through my sister in law, Jolanda. I too applied. I thought I was witty ( and I am usually not,) so it was BIG DEAL to apply. I even made up a great rap on the application. I thought for sure I was going. Then I remembered that there are 32 million people in our country and I guess it was luck. I loved your post. I even included a photo (as a supporter) my very handsome and buff brother thinkning he would be my ticket, but alas, no. Anyways, just wanted to tell you that you are a very gifted writer and I enjoy reading and lurking here once in a while. TC.
