Family Matters, Little O' This

Go West

Tomorrow I will board a plane and head back home to Summerland, where the skies may be grey but the mercury tends to stay above minus 87,000 degrees.  So that’s nice.  I am very glad that I opted to spend the past two weeks here with my family instead of rotting in my house alone while Steve traipses around down under.  It has been a true break for me in that while Avelyn napped I didn’t have to spend my free time scurrying about browning ground beef for dinner, spit-shining my toilets or deciding which tv show to watch online (I got to watch real, live cable tv, and it was beautiful).  My parents took such good care of me and I am thankful for their willingness to put up with my slovenly ways.
I am looking forward to being back home again and, of course, to Steve’s imminent return.  Before this "business trip" of his (which has included long walks on the beach and lots of kangaroo and koala hugging) the longest we had ever been apart was one week.  That limit has been tripled and I miss my man.
In health news, my mutilated stump of a finger is healing nicely.  Truth be told, only a single stitch was required.  But I really did see MY TENDON (there is no way I can not use full caps when writing that).
Upon my homecoming I will be treated to a maid service!  A while back I won a contest at BlogHer and the prize was a house cleaning.  When Steve comes home to find the baseboards dusted and the floor glimmering I intend to take full credit.
On a related note, Avelyn likes sitting in a big ol’ Rubbermaid container and being pushed around the house.  Cute, no?

If you see me in the sky tomorrow give a little wave and I’ll be sure to return it.

  • Sometimes you have to improvise for toys when you’re at grandparents houses! A Rubbermaid boat is always a winner. When Avelyn gets older, you’ll have to tell her though that it’s a special toy that only Grandpa can do or else you’ll be pushing her around your house all day!

    Have a great trip home!

  • Talk about a mini-Steve, look at that photo! Am glad you’ve had a nice time and a decent break. We all need them…

  • Looks like fun! Hope you have a safe trip home!

  • Hey, I also like to be pushed around in a Rubbermaid container!

  • Rolo and the family will be awaiting your return. I know he missed you very much and is looking forward to your return. talk to you tonight.

  • Yeah, you need to come home and drink a DC with me already.

Did you know that TWO people thought I was you at church on Sunday. This is not the first time. I take it as a compliment to be mistaken for you.
    I really really miss you!

  • You’ll be passing over us in AB. We’ll wave! ;)

  • Oh man, glad to hear your finger isn’t going to fall off. I’ve never had stitches anywhere (except after my c-sections) and the idea of getting skin sewn up without heavy narcotics warrants a medal of courage.

  • Careful of the plastic boat…my dad used to push me around in a cardboard box like that, one day he took a turn too fast, the boat tipped and I ended up with 5 stitches in my head. It was still fun though!
