Little O' This

Like Butter

I am in love. With the Barefoot Contessa.

She makes chopping corn from the cob look like the most beautiful task in the world and her kitchen is what dreams are made of. I want to BE her (but maybe with Gisele Bundchen’s body).

I love how she uses real ingredients and how most of her recipes contain a pound of butter.

I am baking her scones right now and they smell divine. Thanks to the 454 grams of butter , no doubt.

Who do you love?

  • I have been to the Barefoot Contessa many times. It is worth the trip.

  • First, and foremost, I REALLY love scones. :)

I like Jamie Oliver, Take Home Chef (Curtis Stone), Giada de Laurentis, Micheal Smith (Chef at home). Ok- I just like anyone who makes food.

  • I, too, love Ina…I love the fact that she doesn’t apologize for using 896 lbs. of butter and real cream in her recipes. And that she celebrates even simple meals. I also love Alton Brown of “Good Eats” – I like how he talks about the science and history of cooking.

  • Before I got married I had access to full cable and all I watched was the Food Network. Now we have just basic cable and I miss it so much! I must admit though that I remember that the Barefoot Contessa’s laugh annoyed me. But her food looks delicious. I like Rachel Ray because her meals look so easy and fast to prepare.. and I have even made a few myself. Everyone Jen mentioned is good too.

  • I really enjoy the take home chef – I forget his name. He is cuteroo, has an accent and can REALLY cook up some good food!!! Love the Food Network!

  • No T.V. for me… so I’m left with the good ol’ cook books and the odd internet site. One Cook book I’ll recommend is “Rebar Modern Food”. You can buy it at hippie food stores I think, or order it at most books stores. The book is filled with recipes from the restaurant (same name) in Victoria. Two younger gals started it and it’s a HUGE hit. The food is a little “weird” if you’re used to traditional and interpreting all the “proper” names for the ingredients can be interesting… but it’s a great show stopper when company comes over! Healthy AND very tasty… always a winning (and rare) combination!

  • I love…to make fun of Joann Wier. Shs’s a local cooking-show lady, so I don’t know if you get her in Canada, but she’s SO WIERD. Joann Wierd.

  • Butter makes everything better (especially corn on the cob…mmmmmmm). I make a mean batch of cookies, and my secret is the ginormous tub of melty butter in them.

  • I love watching the Barefoot Contessa, but I’ve never tried any of her recipes (yet). Some of the things she makes just look soooo good. Can’t go wrong with butter though.

My cook/chef crush is Ming Tsai. I started watching him back when he did East Meets West and he introduced me to garlic black bean paste. I could eat the stuff off of a spoon, but it’s even better in a Beef Mushroom Stew. His stuff is always so beautifully presented too.

  • I am totally delurking today becasue of my love for the Barefoot Contessa! (I totally love your site by the way…I came here via Kristen at TallnLucky – gosh I miss her!) Anyway! I have made a lot of things from Ina and I have to say that her Perfect Roast Chicken (that she makes for her husband Jeffrey every Friday – lucky man and I watch waaay too much Food Network) is my absolute most favorite roast chicken. It comes out so perfectly moist and delicious and I get TONS of compliments on it!

  • Oh, I love her too! Her recipes are so good, look gorgeous, and she herself seems so laid-back.

Curtis Stone (Take Home Chef) is supacute, and I love the concept of his show.

I do, however, loathe Sandra Lee with an *intense* passion.

  • I love Giada! Every recipe I make out of her cookbooks tastes divine. I watch Michael Chiarello because he’s soft on the eyes.

I’m with metalia, Sandra Lee does not deserve her own show. She’s the worst! The lamest thing I saw her do was dye some frosting electric blue, then use it to glue together two store-bought meringue cookies. Voila! Hanukkah cookies!

  • Besides my husband? Lance Armstrong!!!

:O), sorry, I thought I’d mix it up a bit

  • Chef at Home Michael Smith,by far. Jamie Oliver too. Use the best ingredients and scrap the measuring. Love them.

  • I love poetry and an occasional glass of Scotch… Oh, and of course I love my little friend Baxter here.

  • Love Ina, but my favorite is Anna Olson (host of “Sugar”…I have two of her cookbooks and the recipes are totally doable) I love how she has “switchups” at the end of each episode

  • Do you mean who do I love in culinary land? Here’s who I am amazed by. Cuz I think that Giada Lorentis is pretty good. She cooks with massive amounts of butter, oil, and fats in general. Yet the girl is a toothpick. Have you seen her? Have you seen the ingredients she cooks with? I am turely perplexed.
