Little O' This

Booked

I have one question:  is there anyone in the universe who does not have a Facebook account?

I had been getting a few requests in my email inbox to join, but had declined because I thought it was kind of lame, like Myspace or something.  Then I was chatting with my brother the other day and he was raving about the fun, addictive nature of Facebook and how it’s not as teeny-boppery as Myspace and that I should start an account.  So I caved and did it.  I did a few friend requests just so my profile wouldn’t look completely hopeless and devoid of social activity and left it at that.  An hour later I checked my email and there were like 15 Facebook related messages.  “So and so has written on your wall”, “Whatsherface has left you a message”, “That chick has added you as a friend”, etc.  I checked them all out and saw that my profile was buzzing with all these friends of mine, these closet Facebookers who I didn’t even know had accounts.  I spent the next little while surfing and locating old friends from high school and college days, getting sidetracked by the wonder of the six degrees of seperation.  I really don’t need another internet hobby; blogging keeps me glued to my laptop quite strongly already.  But I do see the appeal of Facebook and it’s a most excellent time waster, which is just what I’m looking for.

  • Hey Amanda…I just joined facebook last week. I was the same as you..i used to get a tone of replies in my email and just ignored them. I caved in though…and joined. I couldnt believe how many people i knew on it. So many people from my grad class that i hadnt heard from or seen since grad. I keep checking it all the time now…i love it..haha

  • I’ve been getting invitations too, but haven’t succumbed to join. I keep feeling like an old fart saying, “what the heck is Facebook, anyway?”

    :)

  • I just received an invitation and deleted it. So, it’s fun? Are you sure it’s not full of creepy stalkers?

Oh, and by the way, I like this “generic” page!

  • As you know, I became a Facebooker too and for the same reasons. I was getting tonnes of requests so finally just accepted. It is pretty addicting- BEWARE!

  • It’s sooo addicting. I feel a little old to be doing it yet, I keep finding old Capernwray roomates and people I’ve lost touch with. It’s also very, very addictive and fun. Enjoy.
    P.S.
You can also add your blog link in the notes section.

  • I do not have a facebook account! I thought it was just for college kids? (Wow, I’m old…)

  • Facebook ROCKS. Its amazing all the people you will connect with. Just wait and see! Facebook is part of the reason for the demise of my blog. Oh well.

  • I like your new (old) picture, it’s very preeetty.
Also, Facebook is probably one of the dumbest things I’ve signed up with finals coming up really quickly. I do enjoy myspace too, but it’s a totally different crowd.
    Enjoy!

  • I just added you. FYI, facebook is veryy addicting. You will love it.

  • At least I think I added you, it was hard to tell from the little picture, but you were the only Amanda Brown in kelowna, unless you are on a different network. I guess we’ll find out.

  • I have no idea what Facebook is. I have an account, and have ‘friends’ apparently, but that’s where the magic ends.

    I am so old.

  • I too love facebook. If I was a cat, curiousity would have killed me ages ago and it’s a non creepy way to find out what all the ‘cool’ kids are doing. Today’s shooting at Virginia Tech made me realize the power of it, it’s weird how many people wonder where you are when you’re not in their daily life.

  • WHOA! See what happens when I am away from blogland for a few days! My favorite people all change on me! :) Firstly, your profile picture is so pretty. I mean, your hair is so flowy and gorgeous. I want to be you. Secondly, I’m a fan of lots of white. I like.
Thirdly, I thought facebook was going to be lame too. I haven’t really done much with it, but someday when I have 19 hours to kill I am going to hunt down all my old high school and college buds.

  • Same here – just the past couple days I finally caved because everyone was requesting me and then when I got hooked, it is VERY addicting so hence a lot less posts to my blog especially cuz facebook is so much easier!
