Thanks for all of your confessions yesterday. It’s comforting to know the vast majority of us are living in filth, only bothering to clean when we know visitors will be dropping by, to create the illusion that we are not swine wallowing in the grime of our scummy bath tubs and piles of unfolded laundry.
I have to be out of the house this afternoon since my cleaning lady will be here. I love saying that.
You know how there are some kids who have perpetually runny noses, juice moustaches, and soggy cracker crumbs ground into their collars? Well, Avelyn has become one of them. She’s had a cold for the past month so there is always a thick stream of green snot dangling from her nostrils, I can never manage to get all the leftover food crumbs off her clothes and face, and her hair is especially crazy these day. I still think she’s cute, but in a “we’re on welfare” kind of way.
Speaking of hair, what should I do with Avelyn’s sideburn? The right one is a good four inches long and it springs up into the cutest little ringlet when it’s wet. But a few of my friends have recently demanded suggested that the time has come for me to cut it off.* I am a little torn because I think that crazy curl gives her character, it’s been there since she was a newborn, and I was hoping to put a bead on the end of it soon (kidding). But I don’t want to be one of those moms whose kids are running around with sick mullets because she is too attached to those ragged locks to let them go and enter the 21st century.
So, what do you say? Clip it off and say good-bye, or let it grow?
*It should be noted that the friends who say I should cut the sideburn off have little babies themselves who are bald as cue balls. Jealous much??? (Again, kidding. A little.)

LET IT GROW! LET IT GROW! LET IT GROW! (to be sung to the tune of the hit song “Let it snow”)
Don’t cut it!! It’s too cute to cut!
Awww… It’s so cute. Let it stay.
It is almost long enough to be transformed into an always stylish combover.
I think that you should thoroughly ponder the vow of the Nazarite and lock up those curly burns long-term.
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DON’T CUT IT!!
First off, it’s cute. Secondly, what do you think it’s going to look like once it’s a hair stub?
shes a girl no need to cut it :)
See, it looks cute in the picture but in reality….
cut it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love the wee little curl, let ‘er hang around a little longer
I guess I’m the first to say that I think you should cut it. It is very cute, but I think it should be the length of the hair around it so all the hair grows together. But thats just me, and by the looks of the comments I think You will keep it too. And that won’t offend me.
Don’t cut it!
As a mother of one previously eternally bald baby, and one with enough hair to donate to Locks of Love, I say DON’T CUT THE SIDEBURN! There will be plenty of haircuts in her future.
What pretty eyes!
Emily is ENVIOUS of the hair! Don’t cut it!
I’m in the, “Don’t cut it” group. It’s so cute and definately adds character!
no cuttie
Oh don’t cut it. It’s so darn adorable.
I actually liked having a chrome dome baby for a while. Now that he has hair he gets all sorts of foreign materials in it. And it makes me look bad when I’m in the grocery store and I realize there is a piece of strawberry crushed on top of his head.
As the mother of a bald 17-month-old little girl, I urge you to keep it. You don’t know what a gold mine you have there.
Sorry Amanda – I’m with Christy on this one. ;) Time to snip it off.
Either way- she’s adorable. :)
I am with Christy and Jen: time to cut it off!
I have to say I’m with the minority. My sister was in a similar predicament. My niece had a ton of hair when she was born, but started losing a bunch of it as she got older. My sister refused to cut it and it resulted in hair that looked like a possessed weed wacker got at it. I think you should cut it off. Sorry Amanda.
