Red Lip, Classic Thing That You Like

I’ve started wearing red lipstick as a way to drum up some hope and light and make me feel like everything is going to be OK. When I walked into the kitchen with my lips painted ruby red the other day, Brin exclaimed, “Wow, Mom. That’s really…vibrant!”

Like, maybe she thinks it’s too much or something. But I need a little pizzazz. And it also helps me channel my inner Miranda Sings from Haters Back Off.

Remember how I mentioned that last week we ate really well? How I was cooking up a storm and everyone was singing my praises? Well, this week the pendulum swung hard and fast in the other direction. And on that dark side of the moon, we found freezer-burned spicy chicken fingers, and also lots of Kraft dinner.

How true is that image above? I continue to accomplish NOTHING above and beyond (if anything it’s less than my usual load and yet I am somehow more wearied than ever) and that’s OK because staying calm and not dying takes a lot of mental energy.

I also threw my back out while trying to single-handedly move a sofa so I could vacuum underneath it. And therein lies YET ANOTHER REASON why cleaning the house is a bad idea. So overall this hasn’t been the most productive week and that is OK.

One other thing about quaratine is that Mackie and I now BFFs. He used to be way more connected to Steve and really only looked to me for his food and water, but now that I am home so much more and also taking him for like, 60 kms of walks a week, he will often choose to snuggle with me instead of Steve.

We get our grocery order this coming Monday so I have lofty plans for our menu next week. Until then, viva la Kraft Dinner! (If you add sour cream and some grated cheese to it, with a splash of hot sauce, it’s basically gourmet.)

Happy weekend, all!

  • I got home from the office today and all three kids shared that they have ZERO motivation today. They tried to be productive and do school work, but it wasn’t happening.

(Me too, which is why I came home at 2:00 and am sitting in the sun scrolling the Internet.)

We’re all exhausted too. Big hugs. :)
