Domesticity, Family Matters, Little O' This

Friday Round-Up

Another week behind us! Some highs, some lows, but we are doing it!

If you want the illusion of health, but also a delicious meal, I recommend making this Napa Cabbage Salad.

It has crunchy suey choy, peppers and green onions…as well as butter-browned almonds, ichiban noodles and oh, you know, an entire cup of oil in the dressing. Add chicken to make it a full dinner. When I serve myself a bowl I say, “Here’s a nice healthy salad for you!” and my body, she just goes with it and is like:

Mother’s Day is coming up and all I want is a nap and some delicious food that I didn’t have to make. I don’t have ANY unreasonable expectations at all:

(I feel seen.)

Tonight we are going to watch the final Hunger Games movie as a family and have homemade pizzas and then eat these brownies that I am enlisting Avelyn to bake for us.

I have also made a decision regarding my hair (this is IMPORTANT). I am finally going to let the roots have their way and try to embrace a lower-maintenance look as we move forward in this weird global pandemic life where the new plan for our family budget that will not really include wiggle room for my blonde addiction. It’s called the “Is It Food?” Budget Plan. They way it works is that you just ask that question (“Is It Food?”) and then if the answer is no…you don’t buy it.

Anyways, this will be the eventual goal for my hair, but first shall come a really long, awkward growing out stage for my roots and the emotional inner work of my coming to terms with how many grays I actually have.

As I have said before, guys: we can do hard things.

I hope you all have wonderful weekends, while also acknowledging that Mother’s Day can be a hard time for many.

Love to you all!

  • Your ‘is it food’ budget sounds like my ‘can it wait 3 months’ budget. The key to it is to start with smaller times and build up ????

  • Emily has been baking up a storm — I’ll have to get her to make those.

Also, that salad looks much more appealing than the southwest salad from a bag that I’m eating right now.
