Milk It

The Shield Rocks My World!

Who would’ve thought that a thin layer of silicone could revolutionize the breastfeeding experience?  The nipple shield was a hit and I did not have to give Avelyn a single bottle of breastmilk all day long!  She latched on like a dream to the shield and gulped to her heart’s content.  She seemed so satisfied and happy all day and it was wonderful.  It really is a whole new world (cue Aladdin theme song).
It was so nice to hear about all of your breastfeeding experiences and I am relieved to know I am not the only flat-nippled fiend out there.  Funny, no one really talks much about it.
Perhaps we should look into forming a club?
We could make t-shirts.
No?  Ok.

  • You are really a nut Amanda. Good thing you still have your sense of humor. :)

  • Yay!!

  • You’d probably hate me for my breast feeding excperience! So I wont share the fact that I had no problems. ;)

So glad that you found the nipple sheild. I know a few ladies that have used them and loved them! Truley a savior.

  • So glad to hear you are trying out different things to get the good ol’ breastmilk into sweet Avelyn’s tum-tum. Good work fellow flat nippled Mama! :)
We went to la leche league’s last meeting, and I really enjoyed it! We can’t make the August meeting, but we can go with you in Sept., the meetings are the third tues. on the month at the health center in Pen. @ 10 am.

  • I personally loved la leche league in Kelowna. It was a little werid at first- not knowing anyone, but then it became great. They were all so supportive of all of my decisions- even if they weren’t 100% breastfeeding (aka: when I gave Kynan formula when being babysat). Having a friend like Kaili there will be even better. You are doing an amazing job. It can always be an adjustment for ANY first time mom. You have the heart of a great mom- no worries.

  • I’m so glad you found something that worked for you & Avi. :)

  • I am so happy the shield is working. Makes breastfeeding that much less work as you no longer have to pump and feed.

  • all this nipple talk is making me giggle

  • Glad to hear that you are finding some relief!

  • Isn’t it amazing how pressured we have become to breast-feed even though some of us have physical limitations and just couldn’t. Don’t let your flat nipples become a source of frustration, do what you can do and congratulate yourself for it. My milk never came in, and I felt like a huge failure as a woman. I took the medication and pumped for two months to give my baby what I could, but eventually had to accept the fact that it just wasn’t working for me. I wish it could have been different, but I’ve accepted that it wasn’t my fault or lack of effort. Your daughter will be ok with whatever food she gets. Bright blessings!!!

  • I will try to never feel bad when someone refers to me as “headlights” because my nipples are far from flat.

You and your child are gorgeous.
