Family Matters, My Girl

The Reason My Hair Has Been Brushed For the Past Two Weeks

DSCF5225.JPG
This is my momma.  She just left today after spending nearly two weeks at our home, helping me adjust to motherhood.  She was quick to cuddle Avelyn, change her, rock her, and love her.  Not to mention all the household chores she did so I could take a break and get some sleep.  There were delicious meals waiting for us every night, my tub was sparkly clean, and the dog hair on the carpet was vacuumed up before it became an inch-thick layer.  She is such a wonderful grandma and it was hard to say good-bye today, knowing that the next time my mom sees Avelyn she will be much older and a completely different baby.  They change so fast.  Even in the past two weeks I feel as though Avelyn looks so different!  She’s got the hint of a double chin forming, she’s smiling more (I know, I know, it’s probably just gas but it sure is cute) and I see the dimple that’s formed on her right cheek.
Both my parents drove all the way from Regina, Saskatchewan to see the baby and I will be forever grateful for all of their love and support.  My dad flew home last Thursday after spending a few sleepless nights cuddling Avelyn while he let me doze.  And both my mom and dad were there to catch the tears that fell on day five when I hit the wall and realized, "I am a mom!  I am exhausted and overwhelmed!  My nipples are retarded and I feel like a failure!  What if I get post-partum depression?!  What if something happens to Avelyn?!!  What if I can’t handle the responsibility?!!!  Aaaaaaaaaa!!" and their words of calming encouragement saw me through.
Thanks, mom and dad.
For everything.

  • That is great your parents could be there for you in so many ways.

  • Man. I sobbed when my Mom left. This brought back so many memories from a year ago, thank you.

  • I beleive a few days after the fact everyone has a momentary breakdown. I started crying, Dana asked me why and I seriously couldn’t think of one reason. You are an amazing mom and will do just fine on your own. And your mom is super sweet. It was a delight meeting her.
