My Girl

Where There’s a Will

As Avelyn nears her first birthday and leaves babyhood behind, her will is emerging more a little each day. And that will? Is a strong one. There is some of her momma’s fire in her genes and it’s getting hot in here.

“Playpen time? PLAYPEN time?! What’s the deal? I am not a beast to be caged! Get me outta here!”

“For real! I got this toothbrush here; don’t MAKE me use it! I don’t want to, but I will!”

“That’s it. I’m done. You’re gonna be sorry.”

What am I in for?

  • Ha! This is my tactic with Asher – when he gets bored in the playpen (which, incidentally is like THREE SECONDS after I put him in it) I just start throwing random crap in and hope it entertains him for a few minutes. Hairbrush? In! Flip flop? In! Wooden mallet? In!

So totally not making that up either. WOODEN MALLET. He loves it. He has bonked himself in the face with it more times than I can count, but he still loves it. Let me know if I should send one out for Avelyn.

  • YEAH!! It’s the pigtails! I love them.

You’re in for lots of fun. Let the roller coaster begin!

  • I’m sorry, were you talking? I was distracted by those fabulous pig tails…so cute.

  • Uh,Manda, you know how we said we would babysit for you?Well,we’ll get back to you on that..our plans might change!Just kidding–if we were a ble to survive the mother of all strongwilled children(you)we should be able to handle a few hours with your strong willed child.Hang in therefor a wild ride!

  • … and I’m right behind you! Send tips my way please.

  • She was perfectly SWEET today! I blame these pictures on the teething monster :)

  • looks like nothin’ but FUN!

  • Somebody is not impressed! When does Avelyn actually turn one?

  • we put the playpen away months ago – D absolutely refused to hang out in there… oh well.

  • HEH. That first face is so funny. She’s PISSED, and totally calling you out on it.

    “Mother. THE HELL? ENOUGH.”

  • You know I feel your pain. Oh, you know I do. The ups make it worth the downs. Hang in there. It gets easier again after…oh say….three years. Oh yeah… and then it gets worse again.

  • Oh My! My Maggie is the same way. I think she is actually starting to throw mini-tantrums! She’ll sit there and stiffen every muscle in her body and…I kid you not…growl. When that doesn’t work she starts screaming. It’s actually quite funny, but somewhat rare. I’m thinking the same thing you are – what am I in for???

BTW – I love seeing your mother’s comments!

  • Those are some great expressions! Just wait until there are words to go with them.

  • My wife will tell you that I’m just like Avelyn at home.

  • She looks ferocious in that top picture. That’s way too cute.

  • That first photo kind of looks like the face the formerly happy StayPuft marshmallow man makes when the Ghostbusters first turn their backpack death ray things on him. Boy, that really dates me doesn’t it?

    love the blog,
    Amie

  • Okay, you are a girl after my own heart . . . I would have snapped all of these pictures too before finding something to entertain her . .. great pictures, I love the expressions!! Have a great day!

  • I LOVE that first picture! Keep your eyes open for “funny baby pictures” contests…that will win you a prize for sure!

  • I’m so glad I’m not the only one who considers a toothbrush a valid baby toy? My 13-month-old uses one all the time!
