Remember how I planted a garden this year? Well, in the month since I first buried my seeds the only things that have surfaced are a few sprigs of dill and half a dozen zucchini plants. (And let’s be honest: if one can’t grow zucchini, what can one grow?) I don’t know what went wrong. I watered my trenches every second day (well, almost every second day…but’s it’s been a particularly rainy June so I thought Mother Nature had my back), they got plenty of sunshine and I kept the weeds to a respectable minimum. I guess the reign of my Black Thumb is simply too much for the baby seeds to bear. I can’t believe I’m a farmer’s wife. I can’t even grow a freakin’ carrot! Owell, at least we’ll have lots of zucchini loaf (ugh). I guess I’m just not meant to be an earth-digging hippie.
My baby was a hippie today though! Check out her embroidered peasant top, faded jeans, and free love headband:
Also, the long-awaited turning of the carseat happened today. Sing a song of joy with me! Now I can actually see her while we drive and easily pass her snacks and drinks to keep her screaming to a minimum.
I woke up with an ominous sore throat this morning and fear a nasty cold is coming my way. I popped some Cold FX (I’ve never taken it before since I’ve always been either pregnant or nursing) because I’ve heard it’s a really great preventative measure. After ingestion I paused and, for curiosity’s sake, Googled “Cold FX and birth control pill interaction” and it turns out that the high amount of ginseng in the medicine can reduce the effectiveness of my oral contraceptive. (Back-up method, here we come!) Anyone else ever heard about this?
I just can’t win.

Sorry to hear about the garden, at least you have zucchini, my neighbor makes a delicious bread with chocolate chips.
I am eagerly awaiting the car seat turn. Alas, it will likely be many more months since we have a small fry on our hands.
The outfit is adorable, girls are so fun to dress!
She’s so sweet. I have some awesome recipes… zucchini chocolate cake and zucchini lemon cookies. You can barely even tell there’s zucchini in it!
I can’t grow anything either, you’re not alone!! I love those curled little baby toes in the carseat picture! Congratulations on turning the seat . . . don’t you love being able to see her face in the rearview mirror instead of the top of the back of the carseat??!!
Have a great day!
Avelyn looks a little frightened by the whole “free love” thing! Love it! She also looks quite happy to be facing forwards now in the car! Good luck with the Cold FX, I haven’t tried it yet…I’m still a little sceptical so let us know how it works!
Avelyn is adorable and I too suffer the curse of the black thumb. I guess I’ll just be a huge supporter of the Farmer’s Market. Nick swears by Cold FX and he hasn’t had any bad colds, but he doesn’t take an oral contraceptive……can’t be of help on that part of it.
Last summer I planted peas and it was so rainy that the seeds rotted. I was so sad! Maybe the rain did the same to your seeds.
Avelyn looks gorgeous!
You may not be a gardener but props to you on your use of French Amanda :)
Hehehe…I love the outfit she has on…sooo cute. I didnt even plant a garden this year…normally i do..i am still always shocked when anything grows though..im not good at keeping plants alive. Congrats on being able to face her frontways…It makes life sooo much easier..I was so happy when Riley reached the age/wieght to flip him around.
I’d like to think we started Avelyn’s hippy phase with that authentic tie-dyed onesie we sent almost a whole year ago.
That shirt is awesome! And yay for front-facing!
We really need to get the girls some matching shirts. Maybe on our September road trip :)
See you Sunday!
Avelyn is just darling! Look how sweet she is, so happy to be facing forward in her car seat! That reminds me, I need to turn Paige around.
I’m with you on the “black thumbs” issue. I couldn’t be less talented with plantlife if I tried.
I love the hippie baby look.
Maybe she can give your garden some hippie love…
I’m pretty careful about what I take due to interference with the birth control pill too. A lot of people don’t know that echinacea has quite a serious effect on it as well…so a lot of those “cold fighting” things I stay away from. For me it’s just good ol’ multivitamins and extra vitamin C.
I have a year old nephew because the doctor didn’t tell my sister-in-law the complications. And after my wisdom tooth pulling, I made sure I googled my pill and the medication I was taking!
Yikes! I didn’t know of this ColdFx/birth control dilemma. They should really have that in the warning somewhere…I guess I should be more careful from now on!
P.S. Love Avelyn’s hippy look! Too cute.
