Here’s an excerpt from a post I wrote exactly one year ago, to the day:
“To sum up, the past 24 hours have been filled with a lot of pain with minimal progression. Steve is actually typing this as I dictate to him between my contrations. He has been a great support, offering many a back rub and encouraging words.
My new motto:
‘Birth plan, schmirth plan.
Bring on the epidural.'”
Tomorrow my baby girl turns one year old! The cliches are all true: the first year goes by so fast.
Last night I was baking the three tiers of her birthday cake and as I was licking the batter off the beaters (my guesstimate was six points worth of gooey goodness) I couldn’t help but think about all the past year has held. Â Avelyn has gone from a spindly, immobile newborn to a beautifully busy toddler.
I’ve been piecing together a video of her first year so once I get some footage of her blowing out her candle and burying her face in her cake, the final cut will be released and we can all shed some tears of weepy joy together.

I can’t believe it has been a year already. I will think of Avelyn tomorrow as I am at work welcoming another new little one into the world! My friend is due on the 23rd so maybe it will be her I am with. Have a great day celebrating Avelyn’s b-day and enjoy the cake (guilt free)!

I know. And it goes even faster with subsequent children, because the family gets busier and busier. My 9 month old is killing me with all of her growing up. It’s fun too, but so hard to see her grow. The first time I was more excited for the twins to do the next thing, jump the next milestone. This time I want to keep her little forever!
I always get a little choked up singing Happy Birthday to my girls. I might just weep at Marin’s 1st bday in September.
