My Girl

Bright Eyes

DSCF5400.JPG
Yesterday I was picking up some photos of Avelyn I had developed.  As I leafed through them at the check-out, the cashier said, "Aww, such a cute baby!  What’s his name?"
I politely corrected her and told her that my baby was indeed a girl.
Awkward.  For both of us.
If that situation arises again I am going to respond, "Thank you!  His name is Boris."

  • aw….cute little Boris.
i’m coming up this weekend! Can’t wait to see little Avelyn and photograph her until the cows come home. Also, i would like to buy some cherries from you guys.

    YAY SUMMERLAND!!

  • I used to get that ALL the time. I could have either girl dressed in pink with clips in their hair and still they’d be called HE. One person actually said once…oh, she’ll have to smarten up. Some people are just that way. I guess it’s better to call a girl a boy than a boy a girl.

  • Ha!
    That’s fun… and awkward.

  • Come on, it’s hard to tell with newborns sometimes. My family thought I was a girl until I was 9.

  • I got that with Abby until she was 3 or 4 months old. Sometimes still. Don’t take offence. ;)

  • I still have people asking if Kynan is a boy or a girl. He can be decked out in loafers, jeans, a playball t-shirt, and a sign that reads “I’m a boy”, and there would still be that one idiot that thinks he is a girl. Go figure. I like your response!!! And what an angel, she is so sweet and you look good too.

  • That’s my favorite part of the new baby, everyone has to look and comment but no one has a clue! Old men are adorable because they don’t even catch on that they made a gender mistake!

  • I would get that with Tiffany when she was so little too. I would have to correct people often. She’s a girl not a boy. Even when she was wearing pink. Some people are so daft!

  • Same with my boys – they’d be decked in blue, and I’d get asked if they were a boy or girl…

    She’s a BEAUTY, and definitely a girl :)

  • My parent got my ears pierced cause I was bald and everyone thought I was a boy. WEIRD!
    I LOVE the picture!

  • What??!! As even if she looks like a boy. Weirdos.
But, yeah, Megan still gets mistaken for a boy on occasion if you can believe it. Only if I leave her hair down and if she wears blue. And yes, it’s the old men in the grocery store who make the mistake.

  • Oh my—-I spend so much of my time looking at the pics on your blog-I go back to them over and over again—I am in serious Avelyn withdrawal;I need my fix of my grandbaby in my arms! She is so cute(you look pretty good too!)She definately looks like a girl;the sweetest l’il baby girl.Lovr to you all.

  • You could tape bows to her head, but I think Plan Boris sounds like the best course of action.

  • She is so beautiful! And you look amazing too!

  • We fulltime in our motorhome, and are in many different campgrounds over the course of a year. I meet lots of dogs, and of course, it is really difficult to tell if I should say “she” or “he”. So I just say “he”, if I am uncertain. I’ll say something like what is *his* name, and the owner will say “her name is Fifi”, or whatever.

All that said, I had a strapping boy baby with blonde curls, so you can imagine what we went through with this gender thing! The enormity of it wears off after a while, and there is no permanent damage to the child!

Cherries . . . yes! Wish I were close enough to relieve you of a few pounds of them. We are currently in Chehalis, Washington, but that is probably too far for us to drive over! ;->

    Best of luck with Avelyn.

  • Both you and your baby are gorgeous, it should be illegal to look so good after having a baby.
