Friends Are Swell, Little O' This, My Girl

Morning at the Market

The phone rang early this morning.  It was Christy’s gravelly voice on the other end of the line.  “You up?”  she croaked.

“Yes,” I moaned.

“I thought you’d be.  What do you wanna do today?”  she quizzed.

“I was thinking of going to the Farmer’s Market in Penticton?  Care to drag the children out for the morning?” I suggested.

“Anything to get them out of the house,” she agreed.

So, we were off.

The morning air was fresh and surprisingly chilled as we meandered through the displays of produce, jewellery, doggie bandanas, hand-made purses, and some crazy quilts.

I bought carrots

and corn and purple (!) bell peppers.  There were so many delicious vendors to choose from.  See?  Who needs to bother with a garden of one’s own when one can, instead, support the local farmers?  I’m the queen of rationalization (this post is typed as I gaze out at my garden gnarled patch of weeds…but don’t forget the zucchini!  Despite the neglect my garden is filled with the zucchinis the size of newborn children!  Anyone want some?).  But really, it was so fun to browse at the market.

When I got tired of pushing Avelyn in the stroller, I let the nanny take over.

We didn’t know this before we headed into town, but there was a parade happening this morning.  The second largest parade in BC, thankyouverymuch.  So we stuck around for that.

Avelyn was quite enjoying it until one of the floats drew near; it had gunned horsemen galloping down the street, firing their pistols.  A huge horse came a leetle too close to her and when the gun fired she started to quake with fear, then shriek in terror.

Then I realized I was naked.

All in all, ’twas a lovely morn.

  • I am sending you a recipe for Zucchini Bread. It is wonderfully tasty! – Pick those zucchini the size of children and make as many loaves as you can – freeze them, too. Make great little gifties!

    P.S. I am not a creeplor.

  • You should be proud of yourself that you got zuchinni to grow. When I tried to grow them I got nothing but large plants without no vegetables because no one told me about the male/female plants and how to arrange them to pollenate.
Zuchinni bread is good, I just ate a slice of home made chocolate zuchinni bread, delish.

  • 3 words: Zuchinni Chocolate CAKE (not bread)…. though both are good, cake definetly over-rules bread.

Let me know if you want me to dig up the recipe.

  • That sounds like a lotta fun!

  • Ya’ll~
OKAY – I never would have even thought of chocolate – I want the cake recipe myself!

  • GREAT photos. Looks like fun!

  • Poor baby. Mean, mean horses. Tie a string on your finger so that next time you’ll remember to look at it and get dressed :)

  • Purple bell peppers? I’ve never seen such a thing. I love all the local farmers markets.

We’ve done the parade circuit this summer and I think I am more frightened of the pirates with canyons and prancing horses than Charlie is, or he just puts on a brave face for his mom.

  • Who knew Amanda that you knew how to “arrange” your male/female zucchini buds to polinate them!! Ha, Ha! You are a gardener!

  • Seriously, you’d be so smokingly hot if you’d just do something about that nose. Not a huge operation…just a little something.

  • seeing those vegetable photos makes me want to eat salad right now :)

  • I have to say, that I could not agree with you in 100% regarding , but it’s just my opinion, which could be wrong :)
