Farmin', Little O' This, Wedded Bliss

Strong Enough

I am married to a wonderful, wonderful man.  As I have mentioned before, he works relentlessly to provide for our growing family.  At a young age he took over the family orchard and has been plowing his way through the leafy learning curve ever since.  There have been some trying seasons when there seemed to be no end in sight to the tasks at hand.  Steve usually stayed pretty upbeat about the busy times but every now and again he would feel the pressure and let the stress get to him.  Then it became my wifely duty to cheer him up.  A few years ago after he had spent the late-night hours hand-spraying the baby apple trees he came home to this on the kitchen counter:

I drew him this funny little cartoon to make him smile.  He loved it and hung it on the wall of his office.  So I started to make more, as the occasions arose:

For some reason, I stopped drawing these posters.  Life got in the way of my good intentions and jiffy marker.  But I thought the time had come for a new addition to the gallery, so tonight Steve came home to this:

Thanks for all you do, Stevie!  I love you so much!

  • This actually made me cry a bit. You’ve been married for five years and you’re still your husband’s biggest fan and can I just say, that is what we all hope for. We hope that we’ll feel in five years (or 10 or 15) what we felt that magical day we took our vows; that we would do ANYTHING to make our guy smile. And the fact that you’re doing it, five years later. Well, for a newlywed. That’s downright beautiful. Thank you.

  • Those are great! You should make a book. You should start making them for Avelyn, and it could be a keepsake book thing, so fun!

  • Good wife…Even if you don’t iron his camo.

In our family–as well as in the majority of others, I’m sure–showing true respect for what the spouse (husband or wife) does for the family is a constant struggle.

what you have is obviously special..keep up the good work.

  • Sweet post, my friend.

  • Those are so sweet.
You are so sweet (and talented).

  • you’re one fun wife…the best kind, in my opinion!

  • Well done, Amanda! You are quite the artist! From your drawings I feel like I kinda know your husband for real!

  • I love that you drew those for Steve but what I love even more is how he has them all proudly displayed in his office. :) They always cracked me up. I especially love the newest addition to the collection. Seriously, I think Steve seriously must have an extra set of hands somewhere with all that he gets done!

  • Those drawings are terrific! You’re a great artist (cartoonist, maybe?) I have zero skill in that department, so I admire those that do.

  • Awesome! Maybe I’ll start making them for my man. He’d love it!

  • too cute!

  • Awesome – I wish I had your drawing skills!

  • Love them- great drawing!

And what a great way to show your support for his hard work. I think I need to do that more for my husband, because he does work really really hard.

    Thanks for the idea!

  • That’s awesome. When you get enough, bind them in a book and put it on your coffee table for all to see!

  • Your awesome Amanda…made me laugh… and tear up!

  • These are awesome! I wish I had half the artistic talent as you display here – what a fun thing for you to do to show your appreciation and how special he must feel to find these little gems.

…also, are you foreshadowing something with the phrase “our growing family”? :)

  • Oh my gosh Amanda, you are too cute!

How nice for Steve to come home to these notes after long days in the orchards, and lucky you to have such a hard working husband.

  • Hahahaha!! I LOVE this! I can just imagine my husband doing the same thing – he’d totally hang it up somewhere that he could look at it all the time!
I love the last one, complete with the crocs and camo, very good attention to detail! hehe

  • First of all, what DON’T you do well Amanda?? Oh my gosh!!! You are a really good artist. You should do that professionally, coupled with your writing. You could make millions…..well at least a few dollars. ha ha

I loved the camo pants and crocs notation in the last picture.

And on a serious note, it truly is really cool to see how much you love your hubby. I hope to find a love like that someday (heavy sigh…)

  • May you always love each other through thick and thin. Steve is a great guy and you are a great gal.

By the way – Happy Birthday!!

Love from from Uncle Don too!!

  • Those are great pictures. I love how your actual ‘font’ is the same as in highschool. I have a page in my scrapbook of the little notes you put in a box for me, a box of similies left outside my dorm door. And the font is the same. Maybe you can patent it and call it ‘Amanda’s Affection’, that would be a great descriptor for it. I hope you and Octopus man have many more fun memories!

  • Dang girl, you are one heck of an artist! I love that idea. It reminds me of when I was in elementary school, my mom used to always draw a picture with a little note on my lunch napkin. You should keep that in mind for Avelyn when she’s older :)

  • You are such an artistic gal. Steve is lucky to have you and vise versa. You two make such a great couple. Can’t wait to see you in OCT.

  • Aww, lovely post Amanda :) Those posters are awesome, you’re a fantastic drawer!

  • You are a great cartoonist. What a great idea to show a little respect…which can lead to a lot of love! ;)

  • Those are really cool! Your husband is lucky to have you. :)

  • Who knew you were such an artist?!? Those are awesome! Love it!
