Lately I have had the insatiable desire to make stuff. The problem is I don’t know how to make anything good. I want to paint on canvas and design blog banners and create scrapbook pages and try a new recipe and paint the walls in our house and write a song and sew a sock monkey.
I haven’t done any of those things yet, mostly because I don’t have the know-how to make them realities.
SO SAD.
My house is a cluttered mess but all I want is for it to look like something out of the pages of Real Simple. C’mon, that’s not too much to ask, is it? I kind of hate when I feel these urges to create stuff because I rarely actually follow through with anything and just end up feeling frustrated with my lack of skillz instead of actually doing something constructive.
Because I do think a sock monkey would solve all my problems.
What do you wish you could make?

A favicon was on my list, but I made one! I’ll show you how, if you’d like :)
Hmmm…I’d also like to know how do do more web stuff. Banners, design, etc.
I’d also make you a sock monkey if I knew how :)
I wish I had time to finish all the projects I start. I was blessed with inherited super-creative-crafty-artsyness… but have not the TIME or PATIENCE to see all my dreams through!
erg!
Instead I keep a silly scrapbook filled with my “house” if it were perfect. I can dream…
I wish I could make more time and patience… and money. hehe.
I would like to paint on canvas as well. Paul bought me a total art set up last Christmas and it is still waiting to be used. We had the easel with a blank canvas set up in a nice corner of our front room. He added a chair and a spot to set my wine glass down. It sat there and sat there and every time I looked at the blank canvas I felt intimidated. So, I put it all away and there it sits in the front hall closet.
Ps Pastor Dave’s wife Ev used to make those sock monkeys. Remember when she would crochet a Christmas ornament for Christmas.
I wish I knew how to sew a little better. I’d love to make matching outfits for the girls, valances for their rooms, spring dresses for myself, etc.
I also wish I had the time/money/resources to try more new recipes. I know a woman who has been married for 5 years and has never made the same recipe twice. She sits down every Sunday night and picks 7 new recipes for her family for the week.
I also wish I could use photoshop with some skill and make baby announcements, birthday party invites, things like that.
With that being said, I think you do have a lot of skillz. I’ve always been a little jealous. Singing, drama, you can bake like a mad woman, you write so well, your scrapbooks are fantastic and you are quite the artiste as exemplified in your last post. :)
A baby. but my hubby isn’t ready yet! We’re working on the art of compromise.
Yeah, a baby. That would be good.
I wish I could knit a really nice sweater. And not the kind you got as a kid with the zig zag pattern but one like you would see in the pages of Vogue. But I can’t knit a simple scarf so a sweater is so far out of my reach.
i make sock monkeys every day and they make me happy! its like creating a new little person…..but in awnswer to what i wish i could do…..sing! i would love to sing my heart out and have family smile at me when i do instead of covering their ears!!! ha!
mine’s simple: homemade cinnamon buns. my excuse for not making them is then i’d eat them. but really? i’m scared they won’t turn out so i don’t even try. but even if they didn’t turn out i’d eat them anyway so let’s not kid ourselves :)
Sock monkeys usually do fix everything! I think you would make amazing scrapbook pages and the secret is to just set your goal for a couple pages not a whole book and before you know it, you have the whole book done! I wish I could make gourmet food, or at least be successful with a recipe from the Take Home Chef.
I think you should make more cartoons .The adventures of Super Steve are great!
Id like to make a pie. I love pie.
Goooood question.
I want to frame all my wedding pictures and make my wedding scrapbook. I want to cook a LOT more and I want to paint all our walls. I want to write cards to all my friends and paint pottery and I want to REALLY save enough money to travel to Spain in the next five years.
I wish I could make this baby come sooner, rather than later.
Check out http://craftydaisies.com for ideas and inspirations – also, classes on how to do some crafty stuff.
I have such grand plans for my wedding scrapbook…which I have barely started. We’ve been married for over a year and I think I’ve completed two pages of the scrapbook. Maybe I should get back to work…or pawn it off on my sister the scrapbooker. :)
I wish I knew how to make shoes. Wouldn’t that be rad? I think so.
I feel exactly the same way, I am not crafty at all. I’m going to attemt a cross stich picture and hopefully get it framed but we’ll see.
Oh, Amanda. I totally relate. While attending the craft panel at BlogHer, I got all inspired, and was all, “I WANT TO MAKE SOMETHING NOWNOWNOW!” The only problem?
I’m not creative at all.
Le sigh…
sock monkeys will cure all that ails you. i have a link to sock monkey instuctions on my blog. and as you can see by what i have made, you don’t really have to follow the instructions, or be very crafty. best of luck. look fwd to seeing some on you blog. oh, and my flickr site (listed on my links) has pix of kids who made sock monkeys in a class i had. anyone can do it! have fun. everyone have FUN!

That painting is adorable!
I too would like to make my house look like it came out of Real Simple Magazine. However, at this point it’s more from a page of a newsletter by “Clutter Anonymous”.
Lol… skillz. Like computer hacking skillz.
When my first son was born, I wished I could make him a sock monkey…but, I am not that crafty either! So I did the next best thing and bought one off of Etsy. She makes the cutest sock monkeys ever. I bought the rainbow one and get ooodles of people asking me if I made that? Uh, no.

Yes, sock monkeys do cure what ails you. I made one last week (used a kit, I know… cheater!)
If I could make anything? I would have to go with baby. Darn the parts that don’t work well!
