When worlds collide ’tis a beautiful thing. Shareen and Christy are life-long pals and I’ve been reading Shareen’s blog for a couple of years now. After hearing Christy rave about what an amazing person Shareen is, I finally got to meet her last night! She was passing through the Okanagan to attend a wedding and she made a pit stop at my house. Wahoo! She is beautiful and sweet and approximately six feet tall (really!). She is going to be doing the makeup for eight of the wedding attendants this weekend so she had a carload of cosmetics with her and she was kind enough to give me, and a few other ladies, a mini makeover. Her stuff was all MAC and NARS and Urban Decay and ImCoolerThanYou makeup that made me kind of ashamed of the nine year-old Cover Girl eyeshadow in my Caboodles. Yes, I still have my Caboodles from the 90’s. It’s like this one but mine is electric blue with sparkles on it and I know that you’re just jealous.
Here is a small sampling of Shareen’s spread. Eyeshadow in every colour imaginable, mysterious products I had never heard of before, and enough lip gloss to…gloss a lot of lips.
I’m terrible because I forgot to snap a photo of Shareen. You can just go to her blog for a look yourself but here’s what she looked like in action, going to town on Erin’s face, beautifying an already beautiful woman with a little help from MAC.
Next she did my makeup and I learned some interesting techniques. I am cosmetically challenged and alternate between shimmery white and shimmery brown eye shadow, depending on the day. She did a nice job on me, if I do say so myself. Here I am posing with my new look and the present I sewed for Jen’s baby. They have already decided on the baby’s name (Josephine) so I decided to kick up my pillow skillz a notch and create a funky shaped pillow. Behold:

In other news, Avelyn has learned to say “Rolo”. I have yet to capture this feat on video but here’s a photo of her mid-word.
And yes, I know she’s growing a scraggly mullet. But no, I’m not ready to trim the white trash curls just yet. Indulge me.
The first round of apples are off the trees and I am tired. My collarbone is throbbing from having a 30 pound picking basket draped over it all day long. Farming. Sheesh.
Our vacuum is still broken. It’s been close to two weeks since the floors were done and you know that when even I am bothered by the grime that it’s baaaad.
I am newly addicted to hummus. There are so many varieties you can buy: roasted red pepper, jalapeno, roasted garlic, sundried tomoto….and two tablespoons only amounts to a solitary Weight Watchers point! I have been dipping anything and everything in hummus for the past few days and while my breath is a new shade of stanky, I love finding new snack options and I am thrilled by this latest discovery.
What’s your favourite snack?

She did an awesome job! I want me some of that makeup, but I’d have no idea how to use it.
My favorite new snack that’s very tasty but not too guilty (150 calories) is chocolate peanut butter ice cream sandwiches by Skinny Cow.
150 calories! And tasty!
You look gorgeous. I wish I knew how to put makeup on, but I too am very challenged.
I am in a snack rut these days so I am looking forward to your readers suggestions. My guilty pleasure these days; organic disney animal crackers from Costco. I use Charlie as my cover to buy a 5 lb. tub of them and then eat most all of them myself.
I don’t know how to put makeup on either..haven’t done it since my 1st grade operetta. However, I will tell you that those eyelash ‘clampers’ scare the crap out of me.
Our son has the beginnings of a mullet too. I keep threatening to go have his hair done, but Andrea’s not ready yet.
And snacks–I used to like hummus a fair amount..still do occasionally, but I, for the most part, don’t agree with garlic. I am with Avelyn..Rolos are my snack of choice.
Amanda- I love the “J”! :) It will look perfect in her nursery.
Your makeover night looked like a fun time. And wtg Avelyn on saying Rolo. I can’t wait to hear her little voice in one month and one day.
I too…. still have my caboodles. It’s a mini one… holds all my hair ties etc. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
My new fav snack is roasted sweet potatoe spread on crackers, used as a dip, spooned right out of the bowl! I just slice sweet potatoes (might be called yams in your side of the world) and slow roast in an oven dish with a drizzle of olive oil. Then when they are brown and goey, about 40 minutes, I leave them to cool and then scoop the flesh out of the skins and mix with some salt and pepper. Beautiful!
I was inspired to make a cushion for my sofa the other night after reading your post, it looks great but I used stuffing foam which you can kind of see through the cover, hmmm, I love the pattern but don’t like the bumpiness. Will have to look out for cheap cushions so I can recover I think!
you look so pretty! i think i may be only girl in the world who still prefers lipliner and lipstick to lipgloss…it’s just too sticky…and my hair gets stuck in it.
as for favorite snack: anything horribly unhealthy…seriously.
I also wear white eye shadow. I think this is the colour I have been wearing since like high school or something like that. I have never been able to find another colour that looks right. Or maybe I just need to learn to apply it so it doesn’t look like I have a two black eyes. Sigh.
As for snacks, I am ADDICTED to cheerio’s snack mix. Now unless they changed the bag since the last 400 bags I have eaten, they are actually better for you than rice cakes.
And they are made with whole grains. So they keep you full longer.
Mark and I split a 200g bag about 5 of the 7 nights of the week. We are huge snackers.
That looks like so much fun. I love make-overs and silly girls night. My highschool girlfriends use to have cookie dough parties. I miss them. Favo snack? It use to be a huge bowl of ice cream, but because I am desperately trying to loose weight, it has become a bowl of Special K with strawberries… somehow not quite the same. PS: Hold of as long as possible on cutting your babies hair. They only have those curls once and I miss Kynan’s baby do.
It was so great to meet Shareen! And her spread of makeup was amazing. I was in awe. Love the shot of you holding the J :)
My favourite snack? Thanks to you – roasted red pepper hummus :)
I just got rid of my caboodles this summer. It was a sparkly powder blue. It had just been sitting in a drawer for the last several years holding makeup I don’t wear. So I tossed the scary old makeup, and the caboodles too.
Oh, and favorite snack: peanut butter chocolate chip granola bars. Or a snickers.
Make-up is still beyond me. I was politely told by a skin care rep last spring that I should start looking into anti-aging creams. Yikes!
Best snack right now is Kellogg’s All Bran snack bites. I like to have them with tea in the afternoon at school. They are also only 1 point for Weight Watchers (the whole bag… and it feels like a lot!)
Hi I am Chris wood’s fiance and i was reading this and it made me laugh cause last night chris made me throw away my caboodles…it was green and blue water colored and i’ve had it for years. it was broken but that is besides the point.
I am another one who is lost when it comes to make-up but it doesn’t stop me looking longingly at stuff. Just wouldn’t know what to do with it if I got it! And snack? Olives. Mmmmmm – preferably marinated in chilli.
Your make up night looks like a tonne of fun! Getting a mini makeover is the best feeling in the world. I think I still gaze at pictures from the day I had my makeup professionally done. I think it’s something I’d like to pick up in my spare time, maybe when the kids are in college!! My favorite snack has always been Easter Cream Eggs, but during the other 11 months of the year I love me some loaded nachos!
store bought fruit salad (with no cherries) – maybe on top of icecream.
and hummus – yum!
Does she come through Virginia? I have always wanted someone to mess around with makeup on me. I am too cheap to buy a bunch of makeup colors and I am too stuck in my methods to try different techniques. You look Hot…capital H…not J you silly nilly!
Oh how I miss my Caboodles! Mine was a light-blue and white swirl! What a concept – a tackle box for make-up :) You looks gorgeous, by the way.
Best snacks? I’m not sure if these are sold in Canada, but Fiber One Chewy bars are like candy bars and have tons of fiber – I think they are 3 pts and worth every one. I eat one for dessert almost every night.

Also, http://www.hungry-girl.com always has great product reviews, recipes and tips.
favourite snack? oatcakes and cheese (actually more of a meal – it’s very high calorie but at least it’s healthy). I must be turning Scottish!
I’m glad you can’t cut Avelyn’s hair yet…It’s too cute! Sounds like you had a fun girls night with all that makeup! The last time I got my makeup done was…NEVER! Perhaps I should look into that!?!
Seriously? You have a caboodles? I bet it was “super fantastic for Bible school and kept all your stuff in the same place while using the communal washroom”. :) Do you at least keep the mirror clean? I had fun, I’m glad you did too…I’ve only met you once now and I miss you already. :)
Oh, and I could eat nachos anywhere, anytime. I actually asked my Mum if we could have nachos as a midnight snack at our wedding…
Favorite snack:
I’m going to offer up my favorite non-Weight Watchers snack because I wanna. Definitely french fries from Wingstop with a side of both kethup and ranch.
Amanda, you look great! I must say that all my make up and make up advice comes from Shareen. I am also cosmetically challenged but not so much recently because of Shareen’s product advice. Now if I could only figure out how to put it on. Glad you two finally got to meet. Kylie
Mr Christie’s chocolate wafers 5 wafers = 3 points + ultra lite Cool whip 1 point. If you are feeling really generous, throw a couple of almonds on top and voila, low point tasty dessert. Variations include banana for imitation banana split.
Second Cup has new snack bars out in vanilla bean and mocachino (sp?) only 3 points per bar.
You seem to have a lot of apples (ha ha). Remove skin, core and sprinkle with REAL butter (1tsp) and cinnamon/cloves/whatever spice. Bake in oven or micro. YUM!
I also have a 1 point muffin recipe. If you want it, I’d be happy to share.
Ya, I’m pretty much all about dessert.
ps. nice to meet you (I always feel weird saying that online). Been reading you for a few weeks now.
I still have my caboodles too, and sadly, it looks exactly like the pink one you have pictured, except mine is a dull matte finish. It holds all my really old makeup that should have been thrown away like 10 years ago.
I too am clueless about makeup. I also wear white shadow (and some dark brown eye liner). It’s been my look since…oh, a LONG time. Only because I don’t know what else to do with my lack of a double lid.
My favorite snack is Cheerios Mix – Nacho Fiesta. They’re all good, but this one is my fav! If I want to go simple, sliced apples with chunky peanut butter hits the spot too.
Do you grow pumpkins? We have had the worst drought here in over 20 years, and there will be no pumpkins here come the end of October. Throw one my way if you grow them please! :o)
