I’m having a hard time not drooling all over my laptop. Not because I’m browsing a tempting recipe blog or coveting a bedroom makeover. I’m literally drooling here. I have decided to give Crest Whitestrips a try since my teeth have been looking like rotten corn lately. I tried them once about five years ago, but I quit after a few tries because Steve kept laughing at me as I’d try to talk with the strips on and I’d dribble drool all over myself as I stuttered over my words like a preteen who’s getting used to her new retainer. I also remembered, after a few moments of having the strips on tonight, that I also quit using them because they’re gross. Squooshy gel oozing from under the strips and into your saliva, pools of spit forming as you try not to swallow the slime, and a strange burning sensation tickling your gumline. I only have to stick it out for seven days then I’m promised a pearly grin for the next 6 months. I think that’s a fair trade. Does anyone out there have a Crest Whitestrips success story or tale of horror to share?
You know that terrible feeling you get when you’ve wandered through a video store for a half hour and nothing is grabbing you and all the movies look like wastes of time? I know. It’s rough. Well, the next time that happens I suggest you reach for this movie: Year of the Dog. I rented it on a whim and loved it. It’s quirky, honest, and very human. It stars Molly Shannon (whom I happen to love). When I was an obnoxious kid in youth group I rolled on the floor laughing about this
on far too many occasions. Year of the Dog doesn’t involve any armpit sniffing or scandalously short plaid skirts. But it’s still really good.
Have you seen anything good lately?

yes I have a success story!
very risky i know… but I bought an at home whitening kit on eBay. It came with gel in a syringe and a moldable try (like mouth guard). The instructions were super clear. I used it 3 times (15-20 minutes each time) and my teeth went white! (well… white compared to the YELLOW that they were before.)
it’s the same stuff you get at the dentist – only a heck of a lot cheaper. I bought it from a business that supplies dentists.
of course, “consult with your dentist before using the product” blah blah blah – which i didn’t.
But I’m alive. And as far as I know that wasn’t the cause of the cancer I had. hehe.
My sister tried the strips once. It worked some, not drastically but some. I heard that the strips are the best over-the-counter whitening product(from a dental hygenist). So good luck to you. Please keep us informed. I’ve thought about using them as well.
The way you have just described the drool is identical to my experience. What I used to do was chew on a face cloth so the drool would be obsorbed. Yucky!
Let us know how it works out…maybe a before and after picture would be fun???
We rented that movie and Luke hated it which kinda ruined it for me cuz he just whined about me chosing bad movies the whole time. But I think that if I had watched it alone I would have liked it. Hope I didn’t turn anyone off…sorry.
I used the white strips a few years ago, I thought all was going well until a few days in when I started to see the difference. My two front teeth were different colours. It seems that I had one tooth where the stains were deeper and the white strips could not do that serious of a job. I stopped right away and walked around for a while with my white and off white teeth until my tea drinking habit finally got them to a closer match.
I can tell you not to rent The Ex, it was not nearly as funny as I expected. All the funny moments were in the trailer.
I just saw Year of the Dog a couple of days ago..and it totally had me crying within the first few minutes. Those bastards.
I had to cut down to using them every other day because they made my teeth so sensitive. So of course it took twice as long. But it worked!
I used them when they first came out sometime around 2002 or so, and they definitely worked. They were the original ones that you’re supposed to use twice a day, but I only used them once a day but still only for 1 week because of the tooth sensitivity. I had a weird discoloration on my front tooth that is gone and has never come back even though my teeth have overall become more yellow since then. I tried to refresh about two years ago with the latest version of the strips that you’re only supposed to use once a day, but they made my teeth too sensitive, so if I were going to do it again I’d try to find the original, less concentrated ones. Still in all, I recommend them They totally work.
I had great results with the Crest Whitestrips, but towards the end of the 7 days, my teeth were terribly sensitive. It got so bad that I could feel screetchy loud noises in my teeth! But I think the whiteness was worth it :)
Oh, and also, I love, love, love Molly Shannon. My best friends from college and I still always take a SUPERSTAR! picture when we get together.
Urgh… sensitive teeth and really, really sore gums after about 3 days of the White Strips… plus all the drooling. Yuck…
Cute title….it took me a bit, but I got it. You are so clever you skinny sausage sailer girl you :)
I never tried the white strips..but I could see how they would be a pain. I actually paid the big bucks and went to a dentist here where I live (got a good deal) and got molds made and have the custom molds. They work WONDERFULLY. I love them. Best investment I ever made. And since they are custom to your teeth, they stay in fairly well.
Anyway, hope the white strips work well for you. I think its worth it!!
Oh yes and mustn’t forget, I LOVE Molly Shannon. SUP-A-STAR *said as she poses with legs spread out and hands out in air with fingers spread wide*. She is one of my favorite Saturday Night Live gals!!! I am definitely going to check that movie out. Thanks for the recommendation.
Oh yes, good movies? I just saw “The Brave One” with Jodi Foster…really well done movie (violent though..). Also, The Nanny Diaries is a good movie also.
i’ve used crest whitestrips before and the results were pretty good actually. only problem was something to do with the bleaching agent in the strips sort of..um…dissolves the top layer of your tooth enamel? or something. and results in your teeth becoming overly sensitive for a few weeks after.
not so bad though. i thought it was worth it and my teeth stayed pretty white for at least six months, if not longer.
i must agree: Crest Whitestrips = very sensitive teeth.
owwie!
I haven’t seen a movie in MONTHS. I need to get out more :)
Adding Year of the Dog to my Netflix que right now. Thnaks for the tip. =)
Try Crest Night effects. I stopped using the whitestrips for the same reason as you.. With the night effects you paint it on your teeth before bed, and then sleep with it on all night, and brush it off in the morning. It doesn’t taste as bad as the whitestrips, and works just as well. (better, actually, for me)… And it sounds gross having goo stuck to your teeth all night but you use way less than the strips, and you let it dry before closing your mouth. I’m not explaining it well, but I liked ’em. But since you have already bought the strips, keep with it! you will notice a difference.
I second Becky’s recommend for the Crest Night Effects.
And since we watch about five movies a week, I feel like I should give you a recommend or two (or five).
1. You seem to like comedies. If you haven’t seen “School of Rock” then you should. Super cute.
2. If you like weird, disturbing, challenging movies, see “Tideland.” (It’s kind of “Pan’s Labyrinth”esque.)
3. “Paper Moon” is a really sweet oldie.
4. “The Last Kiss” made my heart hurt it was so raw and painful and true.
5. The “Angels in America” series will really make you think.
I watched Superstar on TBS the other weekend totally remembering you rolling on the floor with laughter. It’s just not the same without you! I watched Bourne Ultimatum and it was super good.
I just saw “Georgia Rule” with Lindsey Lohan.. I laughed and cried! It was honest and real.. a little sad but happy ending!
a friend and I watched “Away From Her” last weekend. SO GOOD! It’s a Canadian movie directed by Sarah Polley (remember her? Good ol’ Road to Avonlea…those were the days…) It’s a heartbreaker, but so beautiful. It’s the story of a couple who’s been married for 44 years when the wife is diagnosed with Alzhiemers. Make sure you have lots of 5 cent candies to drown your sorrows in! Another good one is the mockumentary “Confetti”, it’s a British film where a wedding magazine is trying to put on the ultimate theme wedding so they pick three couples – a tennis couple, a show-tune couple and a nudist couple. And it follows the wedding planning through the weddings with typical British humour.
No Crest White Strips here! I have fake teeth in front from an “accident” when I was little that knocked out my front teeth and shattered them into a million little pieces. But using a tooth paste or mouth wash for sensitive teeth might help cut down on the reaction. I just ignore the color of my teeth because I don’t want to get my fake ones replaced.
I’m watching Transformers (illegally, I know) and I like it so far. Baby falling asleep made me turn it off part-way through and run for the sheets, however. And as for white strips… Justin uses ’em. I haven’t since I’ve been preggers and wasn’t sure about it but now I’m going to again. You should do “before” and “after” shots, no to blog (unless you want to), but for your own records – to tell the difference.
I actually enjoyed Becoming Jane quite a bit (um, James McAvoy, yes please!) and The Waitress was cute and quirky and original. JUST saw Knocked Up (it really is as funny as everyone says). And I’m very excited about August Rush (coming out in November) and Suburban girl (coming out in I don’t know).
